Tracklist:
1. Lusine - Slur 2. Habersham - Song Of The Lizard 3. Rhino Drum - Dark Da Da 4. Tiga - Pleasure From The Bass (Joakim Remix) 5. Agoria - Kofea 6. Jahcoozi - Fish (Team Natascha Remix) 7. Trafik - Echoes (Petter's Airguitar Mix) 8. Phil K & Habersham - Cloudbrake (Original Mix) 9. Motive feat Abagale Fischer - ABE (Real 128 Mix) 10. Son Of The Electric Ghost - The Devil's Logic 11. Product 01 - I Like It Loud (Buckfunk 3000 Remix) 12. Vini vs The Funk Monster - Dominion 13. NuBreed - To Know (FART Remix) 14. Andy Page - Serpent
This CD is by far one of the most twisted mindfucks of a compilation I've heard for quite some time. To put it bluntly, this disc taunts the listener by whispering in your ear that it's going to brutally fuck you and it doesn't matter if you have lube or not.

All-in-all Phil chose the perfect songs. 'Slur' is the perfect opening track and gives you just a taste of the deranged trip you're about to embark upon and Habersham's 'Song of the Lizard' employs his usual dark and nasty bassline but also adds a loop of an unfamiliar element, an acidic trumpet. The core of the disc is a wonderful journey through the parts of your brain where your mother told you never to go. There's the usual 'track I could do without': 'A.B.E. (Real 128 Mix)' which I don't feel fits in with the style and direction of the disc but Phil recovers from that vocal breaks track nicely by leading into 'The Devil's Logic' which is the perfect title to be included on this disc. The disc ends far too soon with arguably one of the most amazing tracks on the CD: Andy Page's 'Serpent'. With its amazing guitar riff and electro samples, 'Serpent' is going to be a massive tune and any description I give will not do the track justice.

I give the disc an easy 8.5/10 and urge those that like dark, nasty, twisted progressive breaks to pick it up ASAP. Just make sure you have plenty of Vaseline.

Re: Phil K - Y4K

I can't wait for the release of the CD! The tracklist looks really good and I've already ordered the sampler off of Chemical. Skahound is correct too in saying Andy Page - Serpent is a crazy track. I heard Habersham spin it when I went to see him in MN, and it was one of those tracks that stuck out so much that I had to ask him what it was.

Re: Phil K - Y4K

Agreed. These are some twisted breaks. So digital. The only bad track is that one near the end with that horribley cheesy male vocal. I hate when that happens.

Re: Phil K - Y4K

as a phil follower for a long time i found this cd possibly his worst mix comp.

the flow of the mix wasnt really up to his usual standard and i think the tunes were lacking in quality bar lusine, the fart remix and serpent.

sure it had its proggy moments but i wouldnt really call it a "progressive breaks" mix....more on the dirty side of things considering it was mixed for the y4k series.

maybe i was expecting too much or maybe its a sign of how pathetic some of the breaks that are out at the moment are.... especially when one of the most talented djs championing the sound struggles to deliver.

Re: Phil K - Y4K

^^^ wow. really?

was it too light or too dark?

#377812Post 18 of 24

Re: Phil K - Y4K

im just more a fan of his deeper, grindy, progressive breaks and twisted 4/4. all of which he hasnt really been playing recently because a) hes been labelled as a "breaks dj" and b) the sound has died in the arse

this has the more bouncy, riffy edge of breaks strewn through it that i personally dont like.

oh and i like dark da da as well cos i used it in a mix of mine not long ago

Re: Phil K - Y4K

i am a huge fan of dark, deep and dirty.

Nice to hear "an" input about the CD. I think i will sample before I buy this one.

Thx.

Re: Phil K - Y4K

have to keep in mind that it is a Y4K album and as such it is going to be mostly breaks.

there are some killer trademark 4/4 tunes on there though.

here is a review if anyone cares: http://www.residentadvisor.net/review_view.asp?id=2784

Re: Phil K - Y4K

Haven't heard a Phil K mix yet that I haven't liked...don't see why this one will be any different. Dude definitely knows his way around some breaks. Maybe he has been labeled a "breaks" DJ...but I would take that as a compliment, seeing as how good he is at it.

Re: Phil K - Y4K

Those of you familar with the Y4K series definately know what to expect here....sample before you buy is always a good idea....definately not another "Therapy Sessions" mix....the man has sublime skills though and it is growing on me with each listen.....

IMO that the "Past Lessons, Future Theories" and "Hybrid" Y4K compilations will still be played by me long after this one settles on the shelf.......

Re: Phil K - Y4K

I agree with cmike61, this CD is not a patch on Phil's Therapy Sessions mix. It is a great mix with some awesome tunes, it just lacks some flow and at times feels a bit stilted. This may be due to it being overshadowed by OS_02, which is in a league of its own. Most definitely worth a listen, but imo doesn't showcase all of Phil's abilities.
