Anyone on here excited with reunion news? Personally i'm chuffed to bits. Managed to bag a few tickets for the Manchester shows. :D

Sorry Huggie, just feeling nostalgic, relax.

its a case of each to their own i guess, i preffered the mondays back in the days if i,m totally honest, never really been a fan of ian browns solo stuff either but then again i was head over heals in love with a different type of music so i can safely say i never really gave it a good listen to
Re: The Stone Roses
Good to know, I dig some of their work. If I were a big fan, this would be really exciting no doubt.

Huge fan and collector, I don't like reunions. But as the days pass and the hype grows bigger, I'm changing my mind. John quit in '95, I think, Reni walked off 17 years ago. It's a long time. One show or one tour wont be that bad.

Re: The Stone Roses
The Roses are up there with the best ofthe best for me, if you were 17yrs old living here in 1988 like i was then you'd know how big they were. I can fully understand anyone not liking them, taste is just that bla bla - my mate Jim Moody was hooked to the point of following them religiously and other mates of ours followed them from year dot, watching them alongside 40 or so others, still knowing they were witnessing something magic. Then, I couldn't get my head round anyone who'd go see a band rather than be amongst what was going off in the clubs at the time, Weatherall, acid house and te rest of it but each to their own eh? For me, their songs stand the test of time and their first album was a masterpiece. As well as being blessed with one of the finest guitarists about and (arguably) the drummer of their generation (not forgetting his other input), they had something else going on. Something unique, a vibe, call it what you like. They are also a band in the truest sense of the word, mates who came through together, not pre assembled pop machines. They had something to say then and i think they'll have something to say now - the re-union press conference berating the guy from the daily mail for example, you don't get that with so many of the pop fodder clones we see coming off cowell's conveyor and i think music needs that attitude if it wants to connect with the disconnected.
They had an x factor which you can't manufacture
Yes, Ian Brown has sounded terrible at times in the past. So has Bob Dylan, so has Joe Strummer. I can live with that.
So, old Moody and myself have collected everything from the roses we could over the years, demos, rarities, out takes, the band chatting in the studio, all of it. Call that anal or geekish if you want to but if you compare it to the alternatives it may make sense.
So yes I love em and if our man Stickman rings tomorrow to say he failed to get tickets we'll go round and kick his fucking head in. One love

Re: The Stone Roses
Yes, unique lyrical quality and the infamous messianic attitude that did work back then and made you want to be part of it. The first time I heard The Stone Roses from start to finish: one of the best musical experience of my life.

Re: The Stone Roses
Ian still "works" for Adidas :).
Lol @ "Show me the mountain and I will fucking climb it".
Re: The Stone Roses
So I'm curious, Bobjuice, has there been talk or rumors of the Stone Roses reuniting this past year or what? You've posted a lot of their music over the past year, and I remember watching that documentary about the band a little while back...
Or is this a complete surprise? Must be exciting for you.
Re: The Stone Roses
There have been rumours of them re uniting every year, not just this year. It's been a constant theme since they split. I never thought i'd see it happen, and in some ways hoped it wouldn't. Rumours have been rife this summer, people seeing Ian and John together, people claiming that all 4 of them were in the studio, talk of something big. A friend of ours in Manchester told us Ian and John had been seen knocking about together. If those two go into a studio or a rehearsal room, it would be big news and someone would get wind of it, a sound engineer or the owner of the studio maybe ? You couldn't keep that wrapped up for long i don't think. Turns out it was true but we'd all heard it so many times in the past, we didn't believe it till the day of the press conference. Plenty are saying it's for the money but I don't really buy that, they've been offered much more in the past and turned it down. If they make a packet out of it then fair play, as they were ripped off big time with their first deal.
Thing that does excite me is that they are writing new stuff, if they just toured and played the festivals by going through the Roses back catalogue then I wouldn't care much for that, i'd believe then that money could be a factor. But i'm looking forward to the "17 new stuffs" already  And i'm glad they're back with their much missed attitude to shake up the stalest period in the history of popular music. A band with something to say, to tear down the media puppets and bullshit we have at the moment, that is long overdue. They may fail, but they'll give it a go. I'm sure the press will be out to get them from the start, as they tend to be anti establishment and may well upset the applecart.

Lol
Re: The Stone Roses
So did you manage to get tickets Bob? I enjoyed reading your posts there, really interesting! I was too young to see them first time round, but i'll be buzzing for them this time!
Re: The Stone Roses
No, no tickets. Can't say i'm too bothered. If they tour afterwards then hopefully i'll catch them somewhere down the line but don't care much for these 100,000 people gigs in parks myself. I'd like to see em somewhere small but that can't happen now i'm afraid.
Re: The Stone Roses
No it won't mate. There is a tour lined up...but it won't be intimate all the same!

:) very cool...
Re: The Stone Roses
I hope they will put a blueray out, plus a Classic Records, I bet it's already planned.
I was wondering, can you imagine a Bizarro world where John and Ian agrees on everything and accept to release a sophomore album with Fool's Gold, One Love, What The World Was Waiting Was, Love Spreads, Ten Story Love Song? Wouldn't music history be very different?
I would miss the "countdown to The Second Coming" that I lived through the weekly press, 3-4 years of "it's almost ready and it's the best thing ever" :).

I love the Roses!!!
I was fortunate enough to see them play here in Los Angeles May 29th, 1995.

Ian Brown: I do not buy clothes Ian Brown has not bought clothes since 1999, he has revealed. Former Stone Roses man Ian Brown claims he has not been clothes shopping for more than ten years.
The singer told Absolute Radio that he receives so many clothes for free that he does not have to worry about buying them.
He explained: "The only item of clothing I've bought in the last 11 years is a Burberry cashmere tartan scarf."
Brown added that he is sent a box from Japan every two months which contains items from top streetwear designer Kazuki Kuraishi, who has been responsible for every garment the singer has been seen in since 1999.
The musician also told the broadcaster that he would like to be reincarnated as Japanese, as he thinks visiting the country is like seeing another planet.
Last month, Brown told BBC Radio 6 Music that he turned down a song which ex-Stone Roses guitarist John Squire wrote for his recent solo album My Way.

Re: The Stone Roses
During his Strangeways residency he did not have to buy clothes either :).
As Hypo says, he only keeps the very limited stuff and gives away the rest.
