Nice thread, bro!
When we start working the track in a loop (like in Ableton), you put everything together and sounds great! But making the full track always goes hard.
One thing I've tried is to solo some instruments and work it out. I like to start the track with some groove made by one melodic or harmonic instrument. Listen to the tracks you like and see how they start.
Once you made it, there's two simple ways to think. 1: listening, you feel what should occurs next. 2: how could you get in that part from where you are. Can you understand it? My english is far the best.
Then you think what automations you could make, like "opening" the filter or increasing the volume. But I do the arrangements first just thinking, the automations I do just in the mixing process.
I'd like to learn more about that too.
