It's pretty tough work, but rewarding. I'm awake and working in the dirt before what used to be my normal bed time. Above the wall we built there will be a terrace...gonna put some PAs on there next summer and break in the house with a banger. All MS members are welcome to attend.

Thanks guys.

It's in Yosemite National Park, about 4 hours East of San Francisco. Closest store is about 10 miles, couple gas stations a bit further, but any real type of store or town is 45 minutes away by car.

Gonna be filling all those forms up with concrete next week. Looking forward to it, it's gonna be a big step.

We're gonna use it as a vacation house and as a rental. Although I wouldn't mind living in it in the future.

Private property in national parks is rare, but this land holding has existed since long before the park did, so it was just incorporated into the park near the turn of last century. My grandfather bought some land here for a few hundred bucks 50 years ago.

I'll post picture updates when I get em.

No I can't see the north face of Half Dome from my property... I was just showing those pics I took awhile back for people who haven't seen the valley. It's one of the most amazing places on the face of the planet.

Thanks for the tile offer, but we're doing all concrete floors :lol:

Once we're done (in the spring maybe), I'm gonna set a date for next summer to have a house warming party. I'll post up again once that time comes around.

We're gonna be pouring the concrete floors maybe next week, then we're gonna actually start framing the thing... at least the hard work is done. It's been tough but fun.

That's pretty awesome. I'd be interested in renting it out for a week or weekend once it's done and obviously if you are. It looks like a great place to have a nice relaxing vacation!

Are these tubes for water? Why so much of it? Seems like a lot. I know nothing about building homes. Also, what kind of wildlife have you seen so far?

Those are tubes for the radiant heat. Instead of forced air, the house will be heated from the floor. In another picture you can see a manifold where all the tubes come out of the floor. A tankless water heater will be hooked up to that, which will circulate hot water through the concrete floors throughout the house.

Around here we've seen all kinds of birds, owls, snakes, rodents, lots and LOTS of bugs, fish, bears, fox, coyotes and if even a few mountain lions (very rare to see one though).

if i may ask, what have you planned on investing all in all? just a rough estimate. I'd like to compare the costs to what would come up here in europe for such a project. i'm playing with the idea of building a little shack somewhere in the mountains :)
