Re: Portishead - live ?
Would love to catch them live, go for it! Who knows when they'll disband again
Re: Portishead - live ?
I've love to see them, they are coming to my town. That PLive DVD is super old now, I wonder how they sound lately. I wasn't too in to their last cd.
Re: Portishead - live ?
^^^ my thoughts exactly
If i knew they were playing the first album start to finish - i'd be there! :)
EDIT: bizarelly i just stumbled on this review:
"Portishead - Saturday 23rd July 2011, All Tomorrows Parties, Alexandra Palace, London.
"...To the 5,000 strong throng at Ally Pally on Saturday July 23rd, Portishead have never mattered more. In fact, the crowd – most of whom are over 35 and have clearly been there since the very beginning – love this band like they love their favourite blue checked shirt. Time has been good to Portishead’s songs, if not quite so kind to their devotees. They open with ‘Silence’ (which we enjoy, obviously) and as they cheer their mere arrival onstage, it’s clear that five thousand faces are just pleased to see that the band turned up. But what follows is a revelation: delicately balancing early favourites like ‘Mysterons’ and ‘Sour Times’ alongside ‘III’ standouts like ‘Machine Gun’, they prove that you can mix up new material and ice-cold electronic blues standards like ‘Glory Box’. Utley’s guitar playing is a revelation, Geoff Barrow looks and sounds like he’s having the time of his life and in the midst of it all stands diminutive vocalist Beth Gibbons, looking like she’s about to crack but sounding even more fearful and ferocious than she does on record.
Ever evolving and existing under a dark crackle of malevolent energy and John Barry soundtrack shimmer, they close with ‘Roads’, an extended jam version of ‘We Carry On’ and send everyone home with a smile which, given the fact that PJ Harvey blasted them with an hour of blood-letting blues before them, is no mean feat. Like Massive Attack with Bristol before them, Portishead put their home town (and the letter ‘P’) on the map. What’s incredible is that 15 years on, that map hasn’t faded one iota...""
set list:
Silence Mysterons The Rip Sour Times Magic Doors Wandering Star Machine Gun Nylon Smile Over Glory Box Chase The Tear Cowboys Threads Roads We Carry On

Re: Portishead - live ?
^for sure. that is from their awesome PNYC DVD which came out during their tour after their 2nd album came out. that was 1998...i can't believe PNYC came out 13 years ago!!
Re: Portishead - live ?
I saw them a looooong time ago and they were great live. They're making a stop in Toronto soon, but the problem is they're playing an incredibly shitty venue that got neutered by local residents called The Sound Academy. Now, Sound Academy is all high end, no bass or they risk pissing off the locals. That, and the venue is charging something like $61.00 CDN for the show (which is not worth it for the reasons of the venue alone).
I'd definitely go see them at another venue though. They are one of those bands that are a must see live.

Re: Portishead - live ?
Finally I get to catch these guys live. They're a Festival so it wouldn't be a long set list. Roll on 13th of November!
