As much as i like Lio i have to say he is not a crack yet...
Cracks would be Maradona , Pele , Beckenbauer and Zidane they won everything as football players in their club and they made history defending their national team.
Messi has to prove he can take his national team under his wing and lead them to the World Cup final ... also if you notice all the above players that i mentioned were captains in their teams ... messi lacks that Captain Soul that a team needs . Still i have faith that he will get it all together , he is still young and has a long way to go .

i can say i'm a TOTAL Messi fan but i blindly believe he already has the talent to be an historical player... A TEAM must help to make that believe becomes true.. He can't do all by himself.. none of the players you named did all alone..

yeah johan could fit in there but just on a lower scale , next to romario and ronaldo ... he did play 2 world cup FINALS in a row but didnt win it ....still he showed consistency on both ( club and national team).
but 86 and 90 maradona was pretty much by himself maybe in the 90's caniggia and goycochea where extremely important , but 86 was all maradona .
edit : yeah let me rephrase that on italy 90 maradona was injured .I think his presence as a captain was extremenly important ... he played injured and argentina show how they really played without maradona being 100% ... the whole 7 games where horrible but with Epic team strategy .
