Question for NYC people

Hi NYC people, please imagine the following situation with regards to July 4:

1.) You haven´t been given "the privilege" of buying a ticket to the boat party with Sasha for 150$... (probably because you aren´t a hot girl, but a twenty-something male).

2.) Now you are thinking about an alternative event, as you´ve just moved to NYC (yesterday) and you want to have a good start with good music.

Here is the question: Would you go to Victor Calderone @ DanceHereNow (http://www.residentadvisor.net/event.aspx?261984) or to Lee Burridge @ OfficeOps (http://www.residentadvisor.net/event.aspx?268394)?

Music-wise it would be clearly Lee for me (haven´t heard Calderone playing, though). Is the DanceHereNow festival any good? Sounds like an interesting location, but I don´t like the line-up...

Thanks for your thoughts on this!

Re: Question for NYC people

Re: Question for NYC people

If Burridge is someone you really like music wise why would you even consider someone you don't know ??

#1519320Post 5 of 34

Re: Question for NYC people

"Peddy"?
If Burridge is someone you really like music wise why would you even consider someone you don't know ??
Now that´s a good point. For me (and for everyone on this board, I reckon) the music during an event is the most important component. I must admit I wasn´t sure about the location and the "better" event in general. I expected something like "that festival is awesome, and Calderone is better than you think"...

Great, seems that I will have a night with Mr. Burridge ;)

Wow - look at the crowd go. :roflmao:

Seems to be a feature of these boat party vids that the crowd looks shite. The first 6 rows of people face the dj booth making videos all night, everyone behind them does very little apart from every so often making a sound like a cat with it's bollocks in a vice shouting "sarsha" - whether sasha is playing or not.

I've yet to see one that looks like it's really going off.

Then again if you're limiting the people by charging $150 to get in i guess you can fully expect a boat full of wankers.

"clap when sasha claps everyone"

I really don´t care much about people, just some space for me and friends .... ........ and surely there will be many farts on boat partys

those strange elements fart people or whatever [which exist in all countries ] .. since many years just became ologramas for me, .... happily I do not see them

on the other hand i didn´t read anything about the $ issues  .. and much important than that 7 hours on a rooftop

so cheers for burridge peddy

I hear you, no doubt that Sasha´s sets are always amazing - never had a bad one myself, however (except of no-shows, of course). My last Sasha party was really excellent, see http://www.mercuryserver.com/forums/showthread.php?100895-Sasha-Beach-Club-Woodstock-(Netherlands)-07-05-2011 and that day´s best video

As you said, it´s about the $$$. That posh concept doesn´t fit with the basic idea of house music/EDM, imho. Hope we don´t end up being forced to wear shirts, leather shoes, to order a bottle of champagne and to show up with a bunch of girls in order to get to a party...it should be about the music, and only about the music. And I think that´s how the really good clubs are... maybe I´m to idealistic.

^Peddy you were at that??? nice one dude, that looked like one of the best parties I've seen in some time!

Re: Question for NYC people

Was there indeed, and it was really one of the best parties ever. Netherlands are always good for such events :D

Unfortunately, Sasha´s set wasn´t recorded/published, but Pole Folder´s warm-up set was (broadcast on May´s Destination show)...still can´t stop listening to it, absolute perfection...

Re: Question for NYC people

Sure! These are by far his three best sets from the last months, in my opinion:

http://www.filefactory.com/file/cb4a62f/n/Pole_Folder_-_Destinations_2011-05-12.mp3 --> from that beach party above. Love his (unfortunately unreleased) live edit of that "What´s your name" track with "Energy 52 - Cafe del mar".

http://www.filesonic.com/file/709304234/ --> this is so good that even some friends who usually don´t listen to edm loved it. Contains a great (again unreleased) Pole Folder edit of Agoria feat. Kid A - Heart Beating.

http://soundcloud.com/pole-folder/pole-folder-sunset-bbq-mix/download --> a bit different than his other sets but very good...

Erm, ok, another one worth mentioning, but I guess you know this one: http://www.filesonic.com/file/7645879/Pole_Folder-Destinations_on_friskyRadio(Live_@Nemo_Studio)-_10.06.2010-Mixing.mp3

Usually he uploads his current sets for a month or so to his soundcloud page, so that´s a good way to stay tuned.

Re: Question for NYC people

Just got some good news: Lee has definetly recorded his set and wants to listen to it before he decides on publishing it or not.

Let´s hope he will publish it, as it was fantastic!
