What's The Deal With...?

I've seen James Lavelle of UNKLE sporting BAPE clothing in many pictures, but can't really find much about it on the net, so what's the deal with it?

#364225Post 2 of 23

It is the most amazing and well made clothing of it's type. No folks I'm not comparing it to Armani or anything... But I can't get enough of the stuff. It is very exclusive, very expensive, and very hard to get. I'm lucky enough to own a few pieces.

It was created by Nigo 11 years ago:

haha they are tshirts man.... those aren't "pieces"

some of the designs are pretty cool, I'll give it that. it was unique a few years back.

:D I was "educated" at the London store. There's only a handful of every model (style) made like one of the jackets that I bought was the only XL in Europe, and there was only three others like it. So in that sense that is why they call their garments pieces. I understand where you're coming from though... It's only clothes. :D

ahh no shit.... I guess I didn't realize the numbers were so limited. cool.

A jacket I would consider a piece.... just not a tshirt

#364289Post 8 of 23

Thanks man!!

#364316Post 10 of 23

Any online store?

#364366Post 11 of 23

The name BAPE/Bathing Ape is based on a Japanese idiom - something about mediocrity in the general society I believe. I could be wrong. But BAPE is highly limited, highly priced and (BAPE lovers you gotta admit it) highly over-hyped. But what can I say? I"m still rockin' Evisu jeans and people have already been saying that Evisu is way over.

Over hyped? I coudn't disagree more. Maybe the t shirts, but like I said the quality is second to none. The attention to detail, stiching and materials speak for themselves. Who cares what people think anyway, as long as you're happy with what you have. Good for you and your Evisu, I like their denim! :D

#364427Post 14 of 23

It is not that limited. Have you searched eBay? They could be knockoffs though...

There are A LOT of knockoffs. And yes, the gear IS that limited.

#364488Post 17 of 23

^^^^^^^

Not that limited? 99.5% of the crap on there is fake my friend. Give it a try you might jsut fall in love with the quality.

:D

#364552Post 18 of 23

i'm afraid i've seen loads of chavs wearing bape knock-offs and also evisu knock-offs.

the t-shirts to watch now are, a bearded man. parody of bape.

#364576Post 19 of 23

Aside from Ebay... Is there any way to purchase BAPE clothing in the states such as an online retailer?

#364579Post 20 of 23

^^^^

There are NO official on line retailers, that is part off the allure. You're either in or out, it sucks in a way it took me 2 years to finally find something. There are stores in Japan, one in London and one in N.Y. Good luck!

#370533Post 21 of 23

some BAPE stuff is dope, other stuff is whack. the new bape x kaws stuff is sinful, but i am already in deep w/ aem'kei and puma.

hypo is a BAPE fanatic, you should see all the gear he's got! it's nuts!

Re: What's The Deal With...?

if james focused as much attention on dj'ijng as much as he does clothes and other stuff, he'd be a pretty good dj :Rolling:
