in your defense.. i don't think anyone (himself included) knew how the hell he lived to 67

#364329Post 13 of 39

I thought the report said he accidently shot himself. I didn't know it was suicide. What a waste.

My first sad day in a long time.

He was a purist in what he did, and what a talented and gifted man he was. He explored the unknowns in life and put it all down on paper in such a mind blowing manner. Be it politics or the hippie movement, he was there and a good representation of the time period.

RIP Mr. Thompson you will be missed by many of us. Thank you for the laughs and thank you for the words that will echo forever in the walls of my mind.

#364363Post 16 of 39

What the fvck man? That guy made me laugh so many times. I don't want to sound selfish, but it almost pisses me off that someone like that would kill themselves.

#364388Post 17 of 39

This was the guy who created "Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas"...

#364451Post 24 of 39

Big shame ... must have read Fear & loathing half a dozen times - that desert scene reminds me of a few club experimentation experiences that went wrong !

#364485Post 25 of 39

not a very nice way to take your life, bad news

#364495Post 26 of 39

Your right.

Man, I still cannot understand how someone could live the life that he did, live to be as old as he did, then just realize it's not worth it one day. Seems so...counterproductive.

#364526Post 28 of 39

The Great Doctor went out in style. We'll miss Your wisdom.

#364553Post 29 of 39

This is what happens when you lose all hope. A sad ending to such an interesting legacy. RIP

#364575Post 30 of 39

yea i read the article, rest in peace hunter. yea it was suicide because of his medical history. Very interseting guy, its a shame that he did away with himself, but i guess we all have reasons for the things we do. It was no accident that he shot himself as far as the stories are concerned, he accidentally shot his assistant once chasing a bear off his property. That movie with johnny dep is hilarious.

#364583Post 31 of 39

Ironically, I just picked up "Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail '72" just the other day...

sadness :(

#364627Post 32 of 39

still a bummer. was i guy that i would label as my "hero", not because of the drug use, but because his words rang for miles. perfect execution of the language and a master of mental images.

:(

Re: Hunter S. Thompson has commited suicide :(

doesnt this discredit everything he has ever written?

#364982Post 35 of 39
doesnt this discredit everything he has ever written?
i dont think he ever wrote something about dealing with medical problems, which i have seen a few places as the reason why he commited suicide.. unable to walk at times, had to use a wheelchair, etc... so no

^ Christ. That is one powerful quote. Esp coming HST. Wow.

#365303Post 38 of 39

RIP :(

I'd been reading his ESPN column since I found out about it a year or so ago simply cause I loved him that much as an author. It was funny and insightful...when not just covering football spreads. I'd noticed in December he seem to stop writing (I guess until this recent Feb 15 column) and was wondering what had happened. Very sad news indeed. He will truly be missed

#365542Post 39 of 39

I hope he did what he wanted to do.

But thats sad.
