Which dj's in your opinion put out a mix or album that was so good you were sure they would stay on top for years, only to come to find out that there best mix was that first mix you hear of theirs?

I might add Paolo Mojo to the list. His original promos were shit hot, but nothing really happened after that.

Re: One Hit Wonders

I kind of disagree, Poalo has been deep in his funk from about the early 90's. I think only recently he just disappeared off the face of the planet.

He was ok, nothing spectacular. But one hit wonder wise, uhmmm it's a hard one with DJ's... How about deadmaus?

Re: One Hit Wonders

Paolo had some great sets on his proton show...I'm still trying to find copies of Music is Fireworks and Music is Freedom - even he doesn't have them :( He also did a great B2B 3 hour set with Fancuilli or however you spell it

Re: One Hit Wonders

^^^ I thought of him first, but I was basing it all on the 2001 mix  I bought two of his albums, and went to 2 of his gigs before I decided the 2001 mix was a total fluke

Steve Gerrard :O

delivered some great breaks sets, an amazing mix cd and he is doing photography now :(

Ashley Caselle, that's the guy.

Sander K is definitely a huge disappointment.

Well I don't think you can consider them ONE HIT wonder, they did have quite a few good releases. They simply dropped out of the scene like Cusick.

I went to a gig where he used to spin dvds, so music+video, and it was shit.

I agree about Keoki, he did have the 1 cd that was great....I forget the name... then Feather mentioned Ashley Casselle, and that's a great example as well.. I had 1 of his albums that was great, then none of his mixes were good.

Max Graham??

#1518306Post 23 of 55

Re: One Hit Wonders

^^^ I have to disagree. I saw Max Graham in Houston a couple years ago and he totally fuckin rocked!!! I first saw him in 2001 and he was good then.kinda didnt keep track for a couple years, then put out a mix cd "Cycles" on Armin Van Burren's label, so i picked it up. Its pretty damn good and then i went to the show i mentioned in Houston and had a great time. He truly is an underrated DJ and producer.

I saw Steve Gerrard a few years ago in Glasgow and he was one of the best dj's i had seen live. Very under-rated, captured the progressive sounds perfectly back then.

Again saw Max Graham a few years ago and he was excellant. Created a great atmosphere with the tracks he was playing.that night. His "Transport" double CD from 2001 was superb aswell back then.

Re: One Hit Wonders

I have 'Music is Freedom' somewhere. He pressed up about 100 copies or so and put a shout out on the GU board - anyone who replied got one free of charge, first come first served. Fantastic amount of work involved on his part; and it obviously paid off as he is dj'ing all over the world now.

Re: One Hit Wonders

cant believe some people are calling Sander K a "one hit wonder" - amazing

edit: just gonna throw in James Holden as well, another one hit wonder, he hasnt done anything liked in the past couple of years - he just got lucky with Balance 005

Re: One Hit Wonders

^ agree, sander is hardly a one-hit wonder.

is the guy i'm thinking of bill hamel? (not that you guys would know who i'm thinking of) he seemed like he was going to be big around 2002 or 2003 and have barely heard anything about him since. his profile on MS makes it sound like he's doing well, though, so who knows.

Agreed Bill Hamel was one of them but I don't think I've heard a track from him? Didn't he do remixes or produce with someone else?

I always associate Sander K with My Lexicon so he's a one-hit-wonder that way, he's never produced anything else that mattered; and how can anyone look past that Fruit track.

#1518746Post 38 of 55

Re: One Hit Wonders

^^God I hated that track !! And it hurt even more that I bought the album it came on !!

#1518750Post 39 of 55

Re: One Hit Wonders

Precisely. It's still a mind boggling mystery how he goes from My Lexicon to Fruit.
