Re: Top Breaks Tracks This Year So Far (2011)
allow me to briefly buck down the bullshit...
hip hop was founded with breaks, breaks are as old as jazz; breaks are the quintessential.
as far as edm goes though... they're forsaken -- just like true school rap and legit dark prog. breaks were fucking bad ass back in the day, forsures, and nothing can compare to some uk , battle, bass, and the famous florida style. finding top beats is a bit of an obstacle: quality artists are few and far between, nowadays, but still out there in certain esoteric circles, no doubt about it.
lastly, since breaks died (relatively), edm has fallen into a somnolent state of immobility and pussification ;)
i really like where techfunk, deep and psy are going

Pretty much this.
For me, it wasn't so much the death of breaks that got me, but that my usual sources then just started churning out nufunk and plodstep. And I would rather cave my own head in than listen to those.
At least my BFF still believes in breaks, so I'll plug his latest offering anyway ;)

Re: Top Breaks Tracks This Year So Far (2011)
I did LOL a little when Scarcity won the best new label at breakspoll. But then I realised that they hadn't been releasing stuff as long as I thought. so for sure they definitely deserved it. Consistently delivering quality tunes 8)

Re: Top Breaks Tracks This Year So Far (2011)
Whenever I think of breaks - Luke Chable comes to mind, to bad I haven't heard anything from him recently.
