Today is a sad day for all of us, As of today, Party 93.1, South Florida's only dance music station, Has changed to an all rock format, Heres the info that was posted by Buster, Who worked at the station.
Bottom line, this is a sad day in dance music. Whether you liked it or not, PARTY 93-1 is no more. Apparently when ZETA switched their format to Latin hip-hop and r&b BOB NEIL, president of COX RADIO saw the vacuum in the market that this created. He worked this weekend to bring everything about through the COX RADIO higher ups and told station management today mid day, and the rest of the station at 4PM. The switch over took place at 6PM.

This is all the information I have. It happens in radio, I wish it did not happen to this station. It has been a part of me for the last 3 years. It was a very rare opportunity to expose dance music to the masses, no matter if it was freestyle, euro, or late night underground mix-show. Yes, the repetition drive me nuts too, and the play list. But one thing I could never argue with was were the numbers. Apparently BOB NEIL thinks we will get better numbers as a ROCK station.

Today is a sad day for dance music, an opportunity I hope we will have the chance to follow through with again in the future.
This is a huge blow for the EDM industry, Not only that, The future of the Global DJ Broadcast is uncertain, However, a press release regarding this matter will be posted on www.globaldjbroadcast.com sometime durring the week.

Fuck. I didn't particularly care for most of the stuff they played on that station, but I always made it a point to tune into GDJB. That sucks TC. Send our regards to Markus. Hopefully something will come up soon.

Re: Party 93.1 has switch from Dance to a Rock format

WOW. Normally EDM is replaced with Hip Hop, RnB or just general Radio compatible Pop music but replacing it with Rock music is a new level. I hope Global DJ broadcast finds a new host soon as this show is up there since a long time and definately one of the biggest and most known EDM shows ever. Keep the Faith.

never listened to it except for gdjb but this is no good sign  and the fact they're switching to rock is a bit strange... I don't think there's a much bigger audience there, if they had needed money they would have switched to pop

Re: Party 93.1 has switch from Dance to a Rock format

Wow that is harsh, but it's Fl. someone has to pick up Global DJ Broadcasts. EDM is way to big not to get picked up. Very sad indeed.

#361812Post 18 of 35

Sad news. Losing another electronic radio. Basically I see all dance station in the us probably going down the tubes. Which sucks.

Re: Party 93.1 has switch from Dance to a Rock format

yeah if a dance station doesnt make it in miami...it wont make it anywhere in the U.S.....seems like electronic still sorta underground in the states...

#361827Post 20 of 35

As far as I know, Markus Schulz still have options, Info on what they are going to do will be posted on the Global DJ Broadcast website sometime durring the week.

#361837Post 21 of 35

Re: Party 93.1 has switch from Dance to a Rock format

That is REALLY disappointing, ESPECIALLY right before the Winter Music Conference when they always have a lot of great guest djs doing broadcasts and Markus Schulz always did some great mixes as well....

Satellite Radio is definitely where the future is - FM radio is dying a slow death....

that depends... there are lots of different rock subgenres that appeal to little teenage shits . the likes of blink 182 and new found glory, etc etc are really popular among mtv crowds... pop-rock and pop-punk.... :Hurl:

i have confidence that gdjb will be picked up by someone else. it gets too many listeners to just die.

Ok guys, Heres some more info I found about the switch, This info posted from the Miami Herald website will offer insight on why the switch happen.

Party 93.1 switches to rock format

South Florida's dance music station Party 93 is now a rock and roller. The station abruptly switched formats late Monday and is now Rock 93.

The move comes three days after Clear Channel flipped its progressive rock station WZTA 94.9 FM to Hispanic urban on Friday, leaving fans of new rock groups such as Pearl Jam and Hoobastank in the lurch.

''Cox decided there is room for a second rocker,'' said Tom Taylor, editor of Inside Radio/M Street. ``The chessboard just changed again.''

The format change is the second for 93.1 FM. For years, until January 2002, it was classical station WTMI. Cox Radio then changed the call letters and format to WPYM and rhythmic dance music, which has had mediocre success as a radio format across the country.

Faced with less than stellar ratings and an opportunity to sweep up WZTA's fan base, Cox decided to make the switch before those listeners found new niches in stations such as Clear Channel's WBGG-FM 105.9, classic rock, or WHYI-FM 100.7, contemporary.

THe switch is also the third this year in South Florida's competitive radio market. Last month, WKAT-AM 1360 turned from classical into conservative news/talk.

CC just did the same thing here in Orlando. Took the only Oldies station off the airwaves and replaced it with Hispanic/Urban or whatever the fuck it's called. People are up in arms here as well. But I guess it all comes down to the almighty dollar. Or should I say peso?

#361854Post 25 of 35

^ Houston did the same thing with Rock 101. Has been houston's premiere rock station for over 40 years probably and they changed it to latino pop/latino rap. I can't believe that music is now becoming a staple in our society.

#361865Post 26 of 35

I personally hate how the corperations are running the FM Radio bussiness, All they care about is the money, Ratings, And how many listeners they get, It's never about the music any more.

#361867Post 27 of 35

Major downer....shows you what Radio management in the US thinks of EDM.

Re: Party 93.1 has switch from Dance to a Rock format

Sucks to hear that party 93.1 changed formats. Seems like electronic music and rock aren't hot any more. It's the latin urban sound along with hip hop that the big radio corporations are pushing.

This really sucks. It was nice to have a North American station bringing in good talent. In addition to Proton that is.

With what we have right now we can surely not provide a high quality stream to the number of listeners this show used to have. It would take a huge update on our site to do this properly so this is not going to happen ATM. I am sure they will get a lot of offers from other radio stations though.
