SPECIAL GUEST RUSSELL RUCKMAN: Russell’s first DJ experiences started at the very young age of 10 playing classic house, soul and hip hop at youth club disco’s, getting up in front of a crowd at such a young age fuelled Russell’s confidence for what he was dreaming about pursuing as a career.

Growing up as a teenager in the early nineties Russell was heavily influenced by the likes of Bobby & Steve, Tony Humphries, Masters At Work, Gilles Peterson, Joey Negro and when it came to proper U.S house & garage his biggest inspiration was Paul Trouble Anderson who’s Kiss FM show he tuned into religiously from early 95.

From the age of 14 Russell was already starting to get his foot in the door in the world of dance music by working on local radio stations Freedom FM & Dfm 101.4.

During Russell’s early days of working in radio and DJ’ing around Brighton & Hove he was working alongside the likes of Norman Cook, Dave Clark, Fat Tony, Chad Jackson, Andy Mac, Dominic Moir, Rob Blake, Alan Russell & Marshall Jefferson.

After taking sometime out for a few years to do other things, in 2005 Russell decided to take his DJ’ing seriously again and picked up where he left off and was soon securing gigs in Brighton & London.

In July 2007 Russell relocated to Bournemouth for just over a year, during Russell’s time in Bournemouth he was playing at various venues around the town, He was made a resident DJ for one of the south coasts biggest soulful house nights “God Made Me Funky” and he also landed himself with a weekly Saturday morning Radio show on Bournemouth’s Deep Blue FM.

After an eventful stint in Bournemouth Russell moved back to his home town Brighton and within a short time of being back he had been made a resident DJ at the Funky Buddha Lounge playing for non other than soulful house pioneers Bobby & Steve for their successful monthly event Bobby & Steve Presents.

Soon After Russell’s return to Brighton he was in demand and was being booked regularly around town and other parts of the UK.

Russell played for some of the best club event brands and venues including: Audio, Digital, Funky Buddha Lounge (Brighton) Bar 54, Stanza, Medicine, CAMP, Bar Vinyl (London) Platform 1 (Bristol) 176, Havana, Bazaar Bar, Oscars (Bournemouth) club nights include: God Made Me Funky, Bobby & Steve Presents, Soul Village Weekender, Not For Squares, Brighter Days, Soul Damn Funky, Soul Satellite, Deep Blue, Say What & Playroom, to name just a few.

As well as DJ’ing for some of the best events and venues in the UK Russell has also been lucky enough to play alongside some of the biggest names in house music including: Karizma, Paul Trouble Anderson, Aaron Ross & Neil Pierce from The Fanatix, Lady Duracell, Grant Nelson, Pablo Martinez, Victor Simonelli, Bobby & Steve, Spen, DJ Romain, Sarah Favouritizm, CJ Mackintosh and Sy Sez & Gavin Peters from The Aphrodisiax.

Russell now has a regular slot on the Soul Damn Funky show which airs every Sunday 12pm - 2pm GMT on Brighton’s only dance music radio station Code South FM.
