Re: Illustrator!

object > cutting area (it's in the bottom options, I have the dutch version and can't remember the english name of the option).

You can also create a path (rectangular) and select it, then choose object > cutting area to save only the selected area for the web.

Re: Illustrator!

whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!...holy!!!............i just got around 730 so far!!......15,000 sounds nasty!!..............but messy!!.........the size of your folder is?......2.5gb...sort of?....i want fonts :Who:

#856373Post 6 of 40

Re: Illustrator!

I have no idea, but I know people who have a lot more than that. I guess the folders will amount to maybe 25.000 in total, but there's so many double ones that I keep it at a safe 15K (and my font manager has already backed that number up).

The hint is understood, will hit you up when i'm done sorting :D

Re: Illustrator!

i am very pick-e with my fonts. use to have a huge amount as well, found out that 3 gigs were dedicated to fonts. cleaned them out, and I am down to 500 of the creme of the crop. ;)

#856918Post 8 of 40

Re: Illustrator!

I'm weeding them out as well, and have a certain collection I tend to return to, however, I always take my time to look around for a font that might just catch the 'feel' of the job. Sometimes with success, sometimes without. But I agree that there can be an overkill in Fonts I would personally prefer a number anywhere between 400 and 600 to be honest.

And there are many more...but sometimes it pays off to actually order a CD because the official release will give you all the variants of a certain fonts, and those will be the quality ones, not those designer by some guy in their free time giving you only half of the characters that a full set should include...

#865317Post 22 of 40

Re: Illustrator!

Bleeding space? Depends on which carrier you print it...normal posters can usually so with a mac of 5 mm bleeding, businesscards shouldn't need more than 2 actually. So it also depends a bit on the size I guess.

As for the master: I'm pretty handy with Illustrator and Fireworks/Imageready, and can do some abstract 3D renders in Cinema, but I've decided to try and master Photoshop inside out since somehow people think it's the shit, especially in the graphics industry. You can do an awful lot with it, but for some reason even the most elementatry shit that takes me 10 secs in illustrator is nearly impossible in PS, so I think I still have enough to learn too. It'll take me a few weeks to bring my skills up to the illy level, it's mostly finding what is hidden where in the program.

But I just completely resent the fact that Adobe deemed it necessary to put the similar or same functions in different places in the programs, not to mention the fact that the conditionalities for applyig them also differ in places. This makes it unnecessarily hard to work with them at times, and can be extremely frustrating. A little example: why not have a pathfinder in PS like Illy has? Why make that different again? There's probably a reason for it, but I don't know it...

Re: Illustrator!

ok suppouse that i have my design in a vector image.....do i need to make a tshirt-shape on illustrator like a regular paper?.....i mean......so i can know where i want to put the image coz i got a couple of ideas......wish my english was better so i can especify what i want.......and yes they are vector images.....

#869373Post 28 of 40

Re: Illustrator!

you could download a mockup image of a shit which you can use to specify the position on the shirt, but in the end they'll need a simple vector image for printing on the shirt. I'd make a jpeg mockup of the front and back and then supply the AI or PSD files with the vector img.

Make your work setup in the image files for printing in centimeters or inches, and make sure that the imagea are in the right size. If its 4 inches wide in your document the printer should make it that size when printed. I once supplied the printshop with the mockups and the print files, but forgot that the latter images had to be in realsize...so I ended up with the a tee that had a huge print, hahaha...

Re: Illustrator!

Digger, hey bro. If you go to www.threadless.com and go to where you can put your own design up for a chance to win $$$ and have your design up on a shirt, they have a place where you can download a free template which has a shirt on it with many different colors.

Re: Illustrator!

ask them what they use. and then just suit it to their preferences. I sometimes just give them a psd,ai, and a big jpeg file to make sure they have everything.
