Been using this for a few weeks now and I've noticed that even idle it's using around 20% CPU time (which is 40% of one core) going up to 36-39% and maxing out a core completely at times. Causes my laptop fan to go mental until I shutdown MSN.

Anybody else experiencing this?

^screw all that crap. Delete MSN and just use meebo and interface with every IM program on the planet via one simple webpage:

Yeah, but it has all the crap you should need, emoticons etc. You can force it to use https if you are worried about security and it will talk on pretty much every network alive via one interface which I think is nice.

Cheers fella. I'm just not buying into all this web based stuff. Would rather have the thing running locally on my machine where it's under my control dons tin foil hat. Anyhoo, I've done a "repair" on MSN so will see if that sorts it. If not then I'm going back to an earlier version.

:lol: ok np. Good thing we aren't on the same wifi network, I could show you how easy it is to sniff your unencrypted IM messages out of the air though.

this program rocks, works with most popular chat networks, there are no ads, can use multiple accounts at the same time, clean and simple. hope u like it.

Don't use wi-fi. All of my machines are cabled. ;)

Tried Pidgin before. Didn't really like it. Might try it again.

Thats good then...Yeah Pidgin is the desktop equiv of meebo I'd say.

I'll give it another go. I really like Adium for Mac. Small, neat and simple.

I use Adium on my Mac too, thats why i use Pidgin on my PC, its the closest you can get.

MSN is still soaking up CPU like nobody's business so I've installed Pidgin. Think I'll stick with this. :)

I guess you mean 'browser based' as all instant messaging is web based.

do you mean just the messenger bit or the entire msn site? (or both). The site itself has caused similar problems for me - and it appeared to be there new advertising features causing the problem. After I ran adblock plus - everything settled down. just fyi, in case its related to your issue.

Just the messenger programme. Likes to take up an entire core for seemingly no reason.

odd..am using MSN latest version and it uses 1-2 percents of one core atm.

Not your bad, IMO. The Web is just World Wide Web of documents delivered via the http protocol, making it synonymous with "browser based". MSN uses an entirely different protocol over The Internet. Perhaps :?:

Anyways, the standalone messenger client uses hardly any CPU for me, even with those flash ads all over it.

For people that use Pidgin: Can you get it to notify you of new Hotmail messages? Friend likes it and this seems to be his only stumbling block to switching.

Theres a check box under Accounts->Account->edit account that says "New Mail Notifications" Hope that works.

You can log to hotmail also by going Accounts->account->open hotmail inbox.
