I searched for it but couldn't find a thread about it so here we go......anybody playing this? I barely have time because of awesome weather and World Championship but when I have time, I am playing the fuck out of it. :) I am sure this Game will keep me busy for over 100 hours without even having touched the online part of it. I am still in the beginning and have only made 2 or 3 main missions so far...but already played over 20 hours with it lol.

Playing Poker, Black Jack and the other Games or just riding through the country hunting down Animals and trying to do the mini quests you stumble over at random all over the map sucks up enormous times and so far it's not annoying at all because you have small goals to achieve all the time. Like killing 2 pumas with a knife or to find the pieces to the different costumes you can get....very motivating. Graphics are ace (playing it on PS3) and so is the sound. I also NOT miss to get calls all the time like in GTA4 from buddies so I can just play the way I want to and start things when I wanna start them. I only wonder if they will ever offer a free save system and a SEPARATE option to pass some hours. Sleeping 6 hours on each Save is a mediocre way to solve this and the Game is long enough to let you decide if you wanna sleep or save but that's the only complaint I have about it. It happened a few times to me that I have played for an hour hunting animals without saving and then I was either torn in pieces from a Puma or boar or I fell into stupid water or from a cliff lol.

Re: Red Dead Redemption

i've just started playing over the weekend ... the storytelling is absolutely fantastic ... its like watching a really good western and overall its so much better than GTA was ... even though if you break it down its actually Grand Theft Horsey

only thing i thought they could have done better is that the horse that you ride in disappears when you hand in a quest and you are left stranded in whichever town you are in ... and the only way to get back your horse is to either steal a horse or tame a wild one or walk back to where your safehouse is which might be in a separate town

Re: Red Dead Redemption

My son bought this and is having a field day with it. He's only 9 and I heard him say he was watching a movie and this guy was having sex with a tree. I just about fell out of my chair....

Re: Red Dead Redemption

Re: Red Dead Redemption

My son has been gaming since he was 4 so he pretty much knows that they are games and not real life. But I do still tend to look at the games he gets before he gets them (that's the dad in me) but I have never told him he couldn't get a game. Usually if I have an issue with the game I will sit in there and watch him, usually just to see for myself what it's about. With Red Dead his cousin had it and brought it over one night so I was able to get a some what good look at it. But like the sex thing you never know what gets put into a game.

Doesn't the Whistle work with main quests? So far I was able to "call" my horse anywhere I wanted to but like I said, I am still a newbie regarding main missions.

Better also check out if he has learned new words you don't wanna hear coming out of the mouth of a 9 year old. RDR is not as explicit as GTA4 was but it's still rough in places. The rest you as his Father should know best. Some kids may have nightmares after seeing how the blood comes out when he is skinning the animals but I know that the majority of kids know the difference between Games and real Life better than Adults.

Re: Red Dead Redemption

I have been without an xbox for too long now, lack of money and general shit but i really want this game! Looks awesome, have always been into GTA games so i know i will like it. Think im going to get an Xbox slim for my 30th and a copy of this game so i can play the shit out of it.

@Funky, at least you are keeping tabs on yours kids game playing and Red Dead doesnt seem too bad. Nothing more annoying than what sounds like 8 year olds screaming on xbox live playing Modern Warfare. FPS games should be kept away from kids and most parents are oblivious!

Re: Red Dead Redemption

The game isn't bad at all and looks to be a lot of fun. I just wish he would give up the remote so I can play it. Both my son and I play MW2 but he never gets on the mic. We usually mute everyone...sometimes those little rats get too carried away! But ya my son is in the 7th prestige (going on 8) and is really frickin good (imo). Little guy can quick scope like nobody's business, but unlike some parents I sit in and watch and play when he is on. I want to keep tabs but I also want to do it in the distance.

Re: Red Dead Redemption

^^ In Video Games, you can only loose against kids. Their hand-eye coordination and reaction time over rules our abilities by far lol.

Re: Red Dead Redemption

You aren't kidding. I would love to be able to play like him! Maybe if I had a lot more practice time I could but he needs to give up the remote so I can play some of these games more!!

Re: Red Dead Redemption

yeah i'm hitting this game on occasion as well... haven't tried it on-line though

Re: Red Dead Redemption

I will defo pick this up as I love the GTA games and I know this will be similar. On Bioshock 2 at the moment - too many games, not enough time! Meant to be studying for accountancy qualification at some point also!

Re: Red Dead Redemption

Quick question: Did anybody of you guys register GTA 4 or RDR or any other Rockstar Games with the Rockstar social club website? I heard that I can get another outfit by registering there. But they want the PSN network login from me...WTF. They also have a big fat warning on the screen where you are supposed to enter your Login details. Basically they are stating that I am now using a third party service and that they are not responsible with what happens to my personal data. :what Now I wonder if registering there equals getting even more Spam....eeeh interesting and spectacular offers from authorized 3rd parties of course.

#1394272Post 17 of 36

Re: Red Dead Redemption

No I didn't because it was a 3rd party.

Re: Red Dead Redemption

This is waiting on my doorstep when I get home tonight :)

Played Call of Juarez:Bound in Blood for about 5 mins last week, was quite poor IMO plus I know that this will be sooooo much better!

Re: Red Dead Redemption

Ok played for about 3 hours so far.

Jury is still out for me. Worst parts are when you are riding miles to a mission or a place, just takes too long. And some of the early missions are pretty poor - hustling cattle anyone??!

Saying that, the graphics are amazing, the world is huge and I am sure it will get going soon.

Re: Red Dead Redemption

What a difference 11 days makes :)

Epic game. On 18 hours so far and near the end of the main mission, but starting to do all the side stuff which is taking up loads of time.

Anyone know where all the areas are? Only found 83 of the 94 and I'm stuck finding the other 11?

#1403750Post 23 of 36

Re: Red Dead Redemption

I think you need to buy all maps in stores to find all areas but I am not 100% sure.

Re: Red Dead Redemption

I've been debateing on picking this up. Trying to work in, work for 8 hours, games, movies, books, a girlfriend, and then regular life shit makes things go by the wayside. Mainly, games, movies and books (not in that order though). At least she is cool enough to understand and offer for me to bring over either my PS3 and or my 360 and vege out playing there. Well, at least for now. I'll have to pick this up.

Re: Red Dead Redemption

nice find dusk .. quite amazing when u know that its a time lapse of in-game videos instead of an actual place in the real world

Re: Red Dead Redemption

Nicely done and yeah the atmosphere is uncomparable...so often that I just stand there in the Nowhere and look around to enjoy the scenery. Now that I am back, I can continue playing it which is good. :)

Re: Red Dead Redemption

^ I do that too!

Loved the way, when you finally get the chance to return to your family, that the mission complete music changes to this real tearjerker of a song!

Guy at work has done 90 hours and written a walkthrough for it - pure craziness!

Re: Red Dead Redemption

I think I'm 2 hours into the game and want to play more. I bought Crackdown 2 at the same time and have been stuck quickly running through that game to beat it. I should just put that down and get back to Red Dead. Sadly I'm here at work wanting to fix my computer and play video games. I really wish I could fake sick and GTFO here.

Re: Red Dead Redemption

Dowloaded the Zombie pack for this last night - only £8 for a new set of story missions. This time the dead rise from their graves and Joh Marston has to sort it all out.

Gaming has come a long way for me since Streets of Rage on the Megadrive :)

Re: Red Dead Redemption

I am getting 430$ worth of xbox stuff for 250$ tomorrow from a chick from work :D :D :D

She is selling me the console and an extra wireless controller, guitar hero and a couple of other games.

I am going to ask for this game for xmas, it looks super bad ass.

Re: Red Dead Redemption

^It is very enjoyable indeed.

Loving my PS3 at the moment. I was quite blase about the whole PS store and add-ons for games, but I found a new add-on for Bioshock 2 last night, there is the Undead Nightmare pack for RDR and all the Black Ops stuff that is bound to come out. I am gonna fail my exams at this rate!

#1443907Post 35 of 36

Re: Red Dead Redemption

Just bought the Undead Nightmare expansion last night and played survival mode with some friends, loads of fun.

Re: Red Dead Redemption

Finally got this game after months of wanting it (no xbox)

Played about 12 hours of it so far, great game!! I love all the side missions and find myself just wandering around at times shooting birds and saving some ho's from dogs or rapists. Don't mind the horseriding as find it relaxing.

Rockstar are awesome though, that LA Noire game looks great aswell, look forward to that and the next Red Dead already!
