I need a new PC, what should I get?

my old desktop has been on its last legs for a while. the ram is going bad i think, it kept crashing, and running memtest86 on it found a fault and it immediately halts. booting off a rescue last night because my main hd (the old thing has 3 small drives in it) because i think the OS disk has taken a crap too. i need to get rid of the thing it is super loud and has an nvidia geforce 4 ti4600 in it with just a p4 2.26 ghz intel in it.

should i just get a dell? i want something small and prebuilt. i dont need to play crysis 2 on it, the only games i want to play (if i even play them much) will be to checkout the starcraft2 beta invite i have and also teamfortress 2. if i can run these things and WoW decently then I will be fine. I dont need 2 SLI cards that cost 1000$ each.

any ideas? Im out of touch with the PC hardware market and dont know whats decent. i just want small, quiet, not too expensive and a halfway decent vid card that can play average games.

Re: I need a new PC, what should I get?

just get an HP (or gateway) from bestbuy. if its a run of the mill desktop you want to use for everyday "regular" use and has a touch of oomph, you can get decent spec machine for $600

Re: I need a new PC, what should I get?

yes the only diff between the i7 and i5 is mhz. you cant overclock this machine but for everyday use, 6GB ram and a quad core low power consuming CPU and 1 TB HD, what more do you need? I think it comes with an onboard graphics chipset that will also pump out 1080p. With 6GB ram you will need a 64Bit processor and most programs these days are available for 64bit.

iirc that PC was rated best buy according to cnet

Re: I need a new PC, what should I get?

Res, I've had REALLY bad experiences with onboard video chipsets. IMO you can still get a nice low cost computer with an actual card. Of course it's your money, but I'd suggest looking for something with an actual dedicated card if you are looking at playing SC2, WoW or any game.

Yo man, I was looking into Alienware too, but I think we'd be paying more for the name. Besides, they're owned by Dell now. I asked my friend which one i should consider and he recommended the Asus. So I got this one:

This one comes with the blu-ray too. hopefully this rig lasts me a few years.

happy gaming man.
