Just another reason why I won't ever use Chrome and why I'm becoming increasingly worried about how they are scouring our daily lives

Re: Google

I don't use chrome or any toolbar. I try to steer clear of anything google (if I can).

Re: Google
"To be clear, this is only an issue until a user restarts the browser, and it only affects the currently open tabs for a small number of users. Specifically it affects those using Google Toolbar versions 6.3.911.1819 through 6.4.1311.42 in Internet Explorer, with enhanced features enabled, who chose to disable Toolbar without uninstalling it. Once the user restarts the browser, the issue is no longer present. A fix that doesn't require a browser restart is now available on www.google.com/toolbar and in an automatic update to Google Toolbar that we are starting today."
Chrome != Google toolbar.

I love chrome, its very fast and lightweight and now with extensions available it works like a charm. Last version of FF is very good too but still a memory hog.

well to be honest, no one knew about google toolbar still collecting data despite being deleted, until now. it's only a matter of time till it becomes known exactly how much data chrome is mining.

this is one thing that constantly worries me about google is that when you are logged into gmail at all times (and I've posted about this in another thread), you do ANY searches in google and your account name shows up in the top bar. Which means they are mining the fuck out of every search you have ever done. this is one of the major reasons I've stopped running searches from the same browser when I'm logged into gmail i.e if FF is logged into my email, I use IE or Opera to run my searches.

Re: Google

I don't use Google Toolbar but I do use nearly every other service they have: Google Talk/Calendar/Mail/Maps/Latitude/Reader/Checkout/Bookmarks/Mobile/Youtube/etc. I have zero problem with them tracking every transaction I make with them. They probably have data on a quarter of the world's population... with that much data, the only thing they can afford to process is finding the best targeted advertisements so they can generate revenue. Definitely not chuckling internally at why Adam has done multiple searches on "why is my girlfriend a bitch" in the past, or why my phone's GPS coordinates triangulate to a strip club 4 hours away from home

Unless you have something to hide, you have nothing to worry about imo

Yup. I feel the exact same way. I use google search/maps/calendar/email/docs/notebook/sms text search and other stuff from them every single day. it has made my info searches and organization so much better that i dont care at all.

also kamal, you can turn off them storing all of your searches for your account by going to:

http://www.google.com/history

Login and go there, then click "Pause" and it won't store any searches with your account. Unless they are lying. :p

Re: Google

Google released a new video today on their data privacy pinciples as part of Data Privacy Day 2010 (today)

It's pretty generic, but relevant to the thread

Re: Google

they track everything you do/use on their sites (google, youtube, searches, etc) and cache it based on your IP. don't you just love big brother?

#1328925Post 18 of 18

Re: Google

im not so much afraid or call it big brother at all, because they openly state in all of their privacy policies what they are doing. also they use that huge amount of data to make the search engine as kick ass as it is. without all of this usage data google wouldnt be near as useful as it is to everyone right now.
