So I have just recovered from, what I would quite likely label as, THE most horrific crash I have suffered in ages. Clients of the hosting were struck by a series of hacks and forwarders embedded into the html of their websites that rerouted traffic to infected sites that were loading trojans etc.

Unwittingly, I ended up going to the site of one of our client's as he was complaining about errors on the site and I got forwarded to some .cn site that loaded a frickin rootkit on my system. Instantly, it disabled Norton, managed to shut of my firewall and a blue screen came on.

I rebooted into safe mode and ran adaware, spybot, online virus scans. NOTHING. I downloaded AVG and tried to run it, it wouldn't execute in safe mode. In normal bootup, the computer would stay on for 4 seconds after reaching the desktop and just blue screen on me.

Ended up getting an external drive, backing up my data and reformatting. After struggling with this sucker for 5+ hours, I finally have it to where I can get some work done. Fuck knows why people do shit like this.

Re: What nightmares are made of

I use avast anti virus and it always seem to detect shit like that before it gets to your machine, its defo the best anti virus i have used. A few people mentioned in GYY that they were getting redirected when they connected to [ms], it stopped all that aswell before any potential damage could be done. Your right though, whats the point in all that really?

Re: What nightmares are made of

I found it very helpful a few months ago asking for assistance from the Norton mods on their forum. They walked me through how to fix a similar virus that was making my computer shutdown 1 minute after rebooting. Before it would shutdown I would get 50 popups that would all open within seconds which wreaked all kind of havoc on my computers ability to process anything.

Re: What nightmares are made of

As an added layer of security I recommend people using FF with the noscript addon - it might stop several exploits. Also its not a bad idea to disable the adobe pdf's helpers or consider an alternative pdf reader since adobe is being hit by many malware.

kamal, are you using XP or Vista?

Re: What nightmares are made of

and this is why people don't run Windows.

sorry to hear about that Kamal :( but ever since i got a Mac, i have been free of any viruses/worms or adaware... worth every penny imo to not have to deal with running adaware every month like i used to.

Re: What nightmares are made of

Kamal, I feel your pain bro!! This same thing just happened to me last week. Almost identical!!

My computer started blue screening on me once every 15 min and then it became more frequent. Once every 5 min and then once ever min... It got so frequent, I couldn't back my shit up without the damn cpu bluescreening on me!!!!

Long story short, I ended up having to go buy another external HD, reinstall windows on my cpu, so I could have a dual boot up, boot up into the fresh copy of windows, and move all my shit onto my external drive!!

Just like you were saying with the scripts, all of my websites were getting infected with some fucking script that was being put on almost every single one of my local websites.</p> <p>Once everything was backed up, I had to do a find and replace on that fucking <iframe > script, which it did over 650 replacements. Plus go to my websites that were uploaded to the web, just to make sure that script wasn't on them as well!</p> <p>What I'm trying to say is, Kamal, I feel your pain... why people do this shit, I have NO IDEA!?!?! They should seriously be tried just like any other criminal because of people's lives that they fuck up.</p> <p>Maybe sentences aren't harsh enough for the people who write these scripts...</p>

Re: What nightmares are made of

Yeah, I had a message on my computer saying the Trojan virus was blocked and no files were infected. So far, so good. I really hate shit like that! Freaks me the f out. People who do this should be fined for sure.

Re: What nightmares are made of

fined?

punched repeatedly in face, it serves no purpose than to just fuck people up

If people are clever enough to write this code i don't understand why they don't do something useful instead with their knowledge

Re: What nightmares are made of

that really sucks. i just use my mac at home and mainly my linux box so i hope this helps.

i was just reading about this torpig trojan which sounds pretty crazy. the pdf link below is an analysis of some guys findings after they were able to take control of this botnet for 10 days, it is pretty cool.

you should read the pdf link below, it is pretty scary. the pdf says that it infects your MBR and reboots your machine, so that it wont get detected b/c the av software cant see it.
