Re: Final Fantasy XIII

hells yeah! i watched the trailers on my big screen tv about a month ago and it looked INCREDIBLE! i am hoping i can get thru Oblivion on the ps3 before this is released or else Oblivion is going to have to take a back seat to this. FF looks absolutely surreal.

they have delayed the release a lot. i hope this time it is really coming out when they say it is and it isn't pushed out any further.

Re: Final Fantasy XIII

xiii and xiii are seperate games that's happening in the same universe but how the stories are tied i'm not too sure yet ... and xiii is suppose to be the first of a series of ffxiii games that are being released

while ffxiii is gonna go multi-platform on xbox360 as well but from what i know versus xiii is exclusive to ps3

they need to make a PC/MAC version... i would love to play some newer FF games and not have to spend either a monthly subscription or a ps3.

Re: Final Fantasy XIII

why would you need a monthly subscription to play the game? or are u refering to that microsoft scam thats called xboxlive?

get yourself a ps3 i believe that there are guys here besides me will tell you that its well worth an investment besides it being a gaming console ... besides i think its a little hard for a PC/MAC port of the new ff games as it is reported that ffxiii utilizes the full potential of what the ps3 could do and im not sure whether it comes in 1 or 2 blu-ray discs but i do believe it definitely comes in more than 3 discs for the xbox version

i was referring to the PC version of Final Fantasy... the MMO.

as far as the full potential of the ps3... i am pretty sure any of today's computers, blu-ray or not, can out perform a ps3 in any test there is.
The other detail about the series Toriyama mentioned was that, like XIII, the rest of the series will continue to focus on story-driven gameplay rather than allowing the player to explore an open world. i dont know why ppl are bitching about how the new FF game sucks including the critics. its the dopest shit ever. ive never played a game this dope before, and i've played almost every final fantasy series starting from FF1 on the original NES.

It is quite linear which sucks I agree, but at least when you get to a certain point it becomes pretty non linear. It's a great game, but I like the FF1-3 (US versions) better. As you said, the graphics are amazing, but I really like from previous games that I can choose in more detail what each person in my party does, (IE heal this person this turn) type of thing.

All in all, I am glad I bought it and it's a really good story.

FF13 is next on my list after I am done with the Addon "Awakening" for Dragon Age. I heard that it is much more linear than previous episodes and it barely has any side quests but I am sure I will squeeze 100 hours of Fun out of it so I don't mind. :p

heard Demon's Soul is quite good for a RPG .... Heavy Rain is sitting with my pile of couple of other games which i haven't had time to get round to because i'm stuck grinding for CP in FFXIII :what

Re: Final Fantasy XIII

FFXIII has the best story and visuals and presentation of every final fantasy game yet, maybe the best battle system too.

the only reason why some fans dont like it is because they removed some of the traditional final fantasy elements like, mini games, towns to explore and big worlds to explore (wich it still has but not much)

but thats no problem if its for a better story and better visuals...

Tomtom if you are one of those people who wants to make sure you can beat every monster or boss in a game easily, you will have no problem spending 100 hours on the game. Also, if you like to "tinker" with things the upgrade system is very indepth.

Re: Final Fantasy XIII

I have played 20 hours with it and so far, there was not one decision to make which path to choose lol. Tube levels where you go straight from point A to B on a one way road without anything to explore and so far no cities, no NPC's and zero side quests. Also neverending Changes of the Characters you control...feels like beeing taken on the hand like a 5 year old and that's what I do not like about the Game so far.

Besides this, the Game rocks my socks I must say. The presentation and storytelling is together with Metal Gear Solid 4 and Uncharted 2 the best I have seen so far in any Computer/Console Game and the intense way the Story is told takes care that you know the Characters you are playing with and it connects you emotionally which is something I always appreciate.

The Game also calls the Uber-Nerd in me. Since I have understood the Tactics system and the different roles each character can have (and change) during Battles and also thanks to analyzing enemies, it's hell of Fun for me. Finding out the best Tactics and trying to defeat the enemies the fastest and most efficient way possible rocks.

So far I did not look into any guidelines because I hate spoilers and most of the time when I look up something specific I find out things I do not want to find out lol. So maybe my actual questions can be answered from people who play it since some time already:

I was surprised the Game uses real time action instead of round based moves and I was wondering what the Menu option does where you can determine whether the ATB bar fills up normally or slow. Normal is default but what is Slow good for? I hoped it would slow the Battles down a bit because especially in the beginning, before I was able to figure out what each Spell does I was dead lol. But switching this setting to "Slow" made it even harder. The bar took (oh really lol) longer to fill but the enemies moved with the same speed as far as I can tell. So where is the point of this or was my observation wrong and you do have more time to consider your next strike in slow mode?

Another question for people who like some Grinding. I am still not sure how the Level system is working. I have played some of the areas several times again because I wanted to upgrade the Characters I was playing with. Right now I have one char that could need some more EXP because she has joined latest but all other characters have all roles upgraded to max with all options taken - but they have still > 10.000 EXP left for Upgrades. Did I already grind too much (so far maybe 4 hours invested) or will the Game open at some stage where you will need each point you can get ahold of? The last FF episodes I played were 7 and 8 on the PC so I am out of the Loop a bit lol. I only remember that in these Games you could spend ridiculous amounts of time to level your chars up and I loved it. :)

Last question: The Upgrades. So far I understood that I have to invest a few cheaper parts in the beginning to boost up the modificator and to obtain more points from the more expensive Items. But are there specific upgrade items that give you more points when used with a certain type of Weapon or Ring? If so, is there any way to find out besides trying out or checking the Upgrade Wiki which surely already exists lol? Will there be some more hints in the Game or does it just not matter?

side quests only comes in late in the game at Chapter 11 where the story takes you to Pulse and the world is more open.

Character grinding is not so much of importance imo as all characters gain the same amount of CP even when they are not used in battles. You'll probably earn more than enough when you grind for components for upgrades in which leads to your next question.

There are lists out online where how much EXP boost each item give. and most cheap items boosts up the modificator however there are some items which decreases it as well when used but usually those are items which gives high EXP. I did realise that the same component used however varies on how much EXP given for upgrades on different characters and their different items.

As much as money/Gil are useless in 95% of the game, you actually do need it to purchase components for weapon upgrades later. Tip: without giving away too much there's only one chapter in the game where its best to grind for Incentive Chips which sells for 2500Gil and Perfect Conductors which gives a 3-4k EXP with a 3x modificator. ;)

Re: Final Fantasy XIII

Use 36 Sturdy Bones, Barbed Tails or Vibrant Oozes (or 24 Otherworldly Bones, Diabolic Tails or Transparent Oozes) to get an instant x3 EXP Bonus.

Follow it with the right quantity of Ultracompact Reactors, Particle Accelerators or one of the other recommended components to bring the piece of equipment directly to maximum level (* ).

Where applicable, use the transformational catalyst required to transform the item into its superior version, then return to step 2.

Re: Final Fantasy XIII

Another question...right now I am in chapter 11 (guess it's pretty much the end of it) and I could depart with a space ship and return to Cocoon. I have over 20 of missions left because the enemies are much too hard for my party lol. Can I return to the maps from Chapter 11 anytime or at least at a later stage or would I have to grind for EXP and ingridients for days to boost my party up to complete all missions before I leave?

#1369526Post 29 of 35

Re: Final Fantasy XIII

im there also, im at stage 8 and lv 4 on all my characters plus lv 60 on hopes weapon on second stage of hawk boomebarng and second stage of the axis blade some weird names i can recall it rite now but you can come back til chapter 13 i have read on my guide but i like to put all my characters strong enought on here and look for some golden nuggets with the chobocobos :D

#1369618Post 30 of 35

Re: Final Fantasy XIII

Good to know and it sounds reasonable because I doubt you can make them all at this stage. I have levelled my gang up to Level 4 on all main paths and most have all other Paths on Level 2 maxed out too. Crystal power (or however it is called in english lol) is Level 9 already and all have weapons maxed out in Level 2 and I need one of those items to upgrade them that cost 2 million credits so these are no go for now lol. But all in all, I think my group has pretty much everything they can have at this stage thanks to my Nerdness and epic grinding motivation.

But right now, I am stuck with mission #51. The Fal'Cie or whatever kind of Cie this is is soooo hard. I can fight 5-7 minutes and his hitpoints go down not even a third and then he casts a Spell and all die (having between 10 and 11.000 hitpoints).Still no clue what this guy does but I think I need more HP and maybe a different spell/equipment for him. God the missions between 40 and 50 are so rough...they are making me freak out haha. The three Tonberys and the Neokiss nearly made me throw the pad into the TV.

#1369654Post 31 of 35

Re: Final Fantasy XIII

hahaha yes i cant win that mission with the gigant cactuar yet....with one hit it kills one of my characters guess i will try with a sentinel since i dont use it that much for my party i use lighting fang and hope

fang and hope have around 1500 on streng and hope on magic they do most of the damage thought lighitng have around 800 but since i got 1 aurora scarf and energy sazh the atb fill pretty quickly 10% faster first to attack and every time i kill an enemy so she does pretty good i think...im on mission 20 i think...

for farming gil here is a trick http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-e5ya5MwtuY if you still are in the plains with the chocobo all you find sell it and but better items for upgrade if you pass that you can do it with mission 24 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6LmvLOpQ38 kill and sell the item looks very easy

#1369720Post 32 of 35

Re: Final Fantasy XIII

i haven't been playing the game since my brother took over and started his own game but i think he's stuck at the same Fal'Cie as you Tom .. looks tough as fuck and i think he gave up on it as well

from what I've read and if i'm not mistaken the side quests can be completed after you've killed the last boss and it's suppose to be slightly easier to grind after

#1369873Post 33 of 35

Re: Final Fantasy XIII

Yeah, looks like it is this way. I will need till my gang has reached Level 10 and has everything they need (also Weapons in Level 3).

@Digger: Thanks for your hint with mission 24. 60.000 GIL in under 10 minutes ain't that bad. :)

Re: Final Fantasy XIII

its 6,000 per moonseed anyway

im at the end, and im getting that stone to get de tier 3 of one weapon jesus christ i just spend like around 3 days to get it, i get 2,000,000 gil wuuuuuuuuuuuu now im leveling some weapong of vanills to tier 3 and dismantelate it so i can get 3 trapedonz that stone....freaking hard mates......

#1372193Post 35 of 35

Re: Final Fantasy XIII

I finished FF13 during my Holidays and in the end it made me sick. I hear ya, Digger...it took me about 20 hours to get the Trapez....something items to upgrade the Weapons to Tier 3 for everybody in my group. If I would have known in the beginning how long it would take, I would have skipped this part. I made runs on one of those huuuuge beasts in the Game..in German it's called Adaman Taimai...dunno what the English description is. It looks like this:

Only way to defeat it is to use an Esper in the beginning of the Fight to smash his legs and then to have Vanille cast her Death Spell on it...takes ages. Sometimes the Death spell doesn't work so you have to redo the fight. Once the beast goes down, it gives you a 5% chance to find a platinum bar (worth 150.000 Gil) and a 1% chance to find one of these Trapez...something you need to upgrade your weapons to Tier 3. I got 4 items thanks to drops after fights but 2 of them I still had to buy.

After beating the end boss and reaching Level 10, I maxed out all my chars and went back to the missions I had left out: 51, 54, 62 + 64. Mission 51 (Spartacus) fell the 1st time I tried him again because his vicious attack didn't kill me instantly anymore thanks to 28.000 hitpoints on my main character. The Giant Cactuar in Mission 54 was still a tough fight lol. This guy is so quick with his attacks and still can do some serious damage. Mission 62 took me a dozen times till I got those 2 Raktavias down. One of them is a tough fight already but 2 of them....you gotta be fucking kidding me. I endlessly switched Paradigms in order not to die and in the end I needed lots of Luck to beat them..hated this mission. You spend ridicilous amounts of time to power up and then you have a few enemies who still wipe the floor with you. Mission 64 - the last side mission - was quite lame imo, only took lots of time and patience but wasn't hard....chopping away 16 million hit points slowly but steadily is pretty much of a snoozefest.

I got most achievements and the ones I don't have I am not really interested in lol. For one achievement I would have had to buy all weapons and upgrade them to Tier 2 and I would have to improve a few accessories where the item to upgrade them costs 840.000 Gil. :o: No thanks. Not 20 hours more of Grinding. The other achievement I thought that's quite ridiculous is where you have to defeat all bosses of the Fal`Cie missions with five stars. Again, you gotta be fucking kidding me! Some of these bosses, I was glad to defeat them ONCE. I would not even try to defeat them the best and most efficient way.

All in all I must say, massive Game but a bit unbalanced imo. If you play it regularly only following the main story, you will end the Game and are far far away from having maximum values not to speak of maximum weapon damage. I doubt a regular casual gamer will have a single Tier 3 Weapon in the end of the Game. It also turned out that it takes a very long time to upgrade your chars and your only chance to make them perfect is AFTER the Game has ended lol. WTF is this crap? Normally, I like to level and power up during the Game to have more easy fights in the end but FF13 is a bit different here. There were 2 points in the Game where thanks to heavy grinding and monster runs, I had all values maxed out and 999.999 EXP and could not achieve more experience points till the next level was reached..then it took endlessly again to get all the Power ups of the next level. Strange level system imo. If you want to see everything, you need to grind but if you do it massively, you are punished thanks to level restrictions. I hope the next FF will have more non linear Gameplay again. I have also missed cities to explore, people to talk to and side missions, not to speak of an at least limited option what to do next. FF13 was a bit too straight forward for me. But no reason to complain, spending 160 hours with one Game is much more than I expect from a console Game so all good here.
