I think I'm nearly convinced of switching over to the iPhone and bidding adieu to my beloved Blackberry. I've been reading a LOT on the potential features being added to the next gen of this device. All of which are potentially leaked through the configuration files of the beta version of their already leaked OS 3.0 and Apple placing some very large orders from Samsung for Chipsets/memory. Some of the things I've read include

 • 3.2 megapixel camera
 • Video Recording (as confirmed by the image below)
 • 802.11n wireless (are you kidding me?)
 • 32 GB storage (say bye bye iPod?)
 • Rumors of a snap op keyboard (which will seal the deal for me)
 • Push Email

Video Recording

Re: Next Gen iPhone

I'll tell you what, I don't have an iPhone -- I have Sprint and didn't want to switch over -- but I did buy an iPod Touch, which is of course basically an iPhone minus the phone part, and I can not get enough of the thing. The functionality you can get out of it with the various Apps is just astonishing -- everything from Pandora, to games that are actually fun as opposed to just being a diversion while you're sitting on the throne, to an iPod version of the Constitution which is actually handy for me to have on me, for work reasons. The variety is incredible. Next time I'm up for a new phone, I have to make the complete switch, it is non-negotiable.

^^ THAT

Dunno if its something to do with the male gender but shit I'm done with the magazines in my mag rack next to the throne. A morning fix of global news / games would be wicked.

blackberry --> crackberry --> crapberry

My wife now refers to my MacBook as my "Craptop" because I always take it into the bathroom with me. Need to get one of those HP Touchscreen computers and just mount it to my bathroom wall.

I've always considered that and that would be a GREAT option if you have a half-bath. In a full bath, the moisture from the shower will guarantee a spectacular light show.

Wow.

I dont spend that much time in the bathroom... I am what you would call, a quick shitter. 8)

As for the iphone, it looks like a nice update, i ahve a 2 year agreement so im in it until the 2010 revision.

dont worry about the steam, i listen to music in the shower w. my macbook and its fine, it's not a very big bathroom, but a decent size...

Re: Next Gen iPhone

I have had thoughts about getting this when my contract with Verizon expires in a few months.

Now that I see what this next gen has...I'm sold if it comes out in due time.

Wait until June for the announcements if it does happen then go from there.

Agreed! I love my iTouch... I have the very 1st Gen 8gb version... only complaint is size, with all the dj sets and music I'd like to load on there 8gb feels so little now that the iphone has higher capacity... the switch is inevitable.

Re: Next Gen iPhone

looking at all the stuff that 3.0 could do and the possible hardware update i might just upgrade from my 1st gen iphone when the new phone is released

#1198788Post 20 of 44

Re: Next Gen iPhone

It's the best phone in the world. hands down.

i am part of the development group paid $99 to join and got 3.0. freaking tits. i will never use another phone again. the thing does everything that you would need it to do within reason. i could care-less about mms, video, etc. functionality, reliability, experience, software and elegance are my driving factors. pure genius.

and you are referring to the new hardware or just firmware 3.0?

#1198825Post 22 of 44

Re: Next Gen iPhone

Firmware 3.0, there is no hardware update since Summer 2008. Yet rumored there may be a hardware update this Summer.

Re: Next Gen iPhone

I got my iPhone 3G last year because my contract with Sprint was done. The iPhone is the best phone I've ever owned by far. It's easy to use, iPod, maps, mail and many more. My only complaint with the iPhone is the texting is not easy. I find my work Blackberry much easier to text with. Otherwise, it blows the Blackberry away.

Re: Next Gen iPhone

If there is going to be a hardware upgrade, I surely hope they can make the iphone a tad bit smaller and lighter... currently is a little too bulky for my liking ...

MAJOR changes anticipated.
The original iPhone was internally referenced as "iPhone 1,1" while last year's iPhone 3G identified itself as being "iPhone 1,2." While the latest iPhone version sported major new features including 3G and GPS, more RAM, as well as an entirely new case design, it did not use a significantly different processor and chipset architecture. Re: Next Gen iPhone

Upping the graphic processing power seems like a good idea if it helps with Flash ... apparently there has been no Flash on the iPhone because the Flash player wasn't up to scratch. But the new player in the works, and this extra processing power, should get Flash going on the iPhone (?)

#1199671Post 31 of 44

Re: Next Gen iPhone

if i'm not mistaken it was licensing issues that prevented Flash from being included before but i guess that have been fixed

#1199728Post 32 of 44

Re: Next Gen iPhone

What I read was Adobe made a Flash player lite for the iPhone and Steve decided it wasn't up to scratch, and they're back to the drawing board to create something between a proper Flash player and the lite version.

There you go
Apple CEO Steve Jobs went on record to warn that the iPhone needs a Flash Player that works like it does on a computer, warning that the Flash Lite Player that Adobe Systems Inc. develops for mobile phones isn't sufficiently advanced for an iPhone. "Proper" Flash "performs too slow to be useful" on the iPhone, Jobs warned. "There's this missing product in the middle. It just doesn't exist."
Re: Next Gen iPhone

I know apple isn't too big on flash as well because of the possibility that flash gives the developers to create apps in flash.

Basically, people can create games and other apps in flash, which could completely bypass the App Store, since flash is web based.

#1199780Post 34 of 44

Re: Next Gen iPhone

A possibility but I don't think it's a real threat to the app store considering the kinda limitations given the processing power and Flash. For anything fancy (and that includes a nice UI, smooth animation, etc), you would want to develope FOR the iPhone as opposed to developing for Flash on the iPhone because Flash is an additional layer between the user and the hardware that you don't need if you want optimal performance. But who knows!

Re: Next Gen iPhone

I kinda doubt the veracity of that article because it's written based on Apple's TOS and conjecture by the author and other sources, but with no input from Apple at all.

If you developed a Flash application that runs in a browser on the iPhone, I am thinking it will be sandboxed and the application cannot hook into whatever the iPhone has, so you can't be developing stuff that might make use of its address book, its camera, or its built-in GPS. You're basically creating superficial games because there's no way Apple would let some Flash app into the iPhone's innards, that's opening a big can of worms.

And I'm thinking your Flash UI and animation and stuff will always be severly limited because you're programming for something that exists as a layer, you won't have access to all the hardware graphics acceleration and stuff unless you actually develop an app that works on the iPhone.

Plus the drain on battery life. Anyway that's just my understanding which is probably flawed and limited

I agree with you when you mention that Apple isn't going to allow flash to access the "innards" of the phone.

My main thing is that I think apple may feel a little threatened by it because it can take a little of their profit away.

Look at that app that's similar to Bejeweled... the guy has sold I believe over a million of that game over the app store and I know that, that game doesn't take much processing power, which could be a prime candidate for a flash app.

All of the possible "little" flash apps that could possibly take some of the market share would add up and that is something apple really doesn't want.

Anyhow, who cares, just get flash on the damn phone! :p

You mean that people are not currently bypassing the App store :p

Flash or not, the store can be bypassed by those who want to.. flash will be rather groovy and welcome addition; they should certainly consider it.
