Anyone have any preferences??? I have a choice between the two but not really sure which one to pick. Currently upgrading from the Pearl. I know that I will like the full keyboard, but I guess in terms of size they are both the same correct? I have small hands

Re: Bold vs Javelin

really depends on which carrier you have. the bold is being hoisted around the at&t channel as the javelin is being pushed by t-mobile. the javelin (aka the new curve) can be unlocked (as well as the bold) to be used on either carriers network although you will lose some data functionality as these phones were designed for a specific network and their carriers functions. biggest deciding facotrs are that the bold is 3g as the javelin is 2g, so in this aspect it really depends on how you use your service as well as where and whether or not 3g is prominant in this area. as far as size goes, the bold is considerably larger than the javelin, the javelin is just slightly smaller than the original curve and the bold is roughly the same size as the 8800 series.

my prefernce: based on appearance and size - javelin, however you have to consider that the size of the bold lies in part to the battery due to it's 3g capabilities as the 3g love will reak havoc on a battery. (thus the blackjack offering 2 batteries and a mobile charger provided by samsung) based on functionality - the bold

tough call but we do not have the 3g goodness in my area so it would be pointless for me to spend bold money on a bb that i can not use to its fullest capabilities.

Re: Bold vs Javelin

get the latest curve 8900. The only minus it has (in comparison to the bold) is a slower process at 512 Mhz (iirc) but its' still whopping quick compared to the rest of the BB lineup. Otherwise, its smaller, sleeker, better resolution, better camera, better keyboard, AND cheaper.

Re: Bold vs Javelin

Thanks for all the info... Definitely sounds like I need to go with the Javelin. My service provider does not have 3g either so I won't miss it. I have to put in my order as they are always out of stock when it comes to the newer models.

Re: Bold vs Javelin

agree with kamal, trying to work around an unlocked javelin.

get back to us and let us know what you think

Re: Bold vs Javelin

Still patiently waiting for the Javelin to arrive... I'll eventually need to have it unlocked as well I'm sure.

#1213344Post 7 of 48

Re: Bold vs Javelin

did your Javelin arrive yet? I ended up ordering it as well (from work) today because my trusty 7800g finally caved in over the weekend. I'm still debating if I should've got the bold to use ATTs 3G network (as opposed to Tmo's measly edge). While I do stay in an area that doesn't have 3G anyways, I do travel enough where I can exploit the 3G usage.

so as of now, I don't know if I've done the right thing or not.

just fyi http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/05/04/rims-blackberry-curve-8900-officially-hitting-atandt-in-early-su/

will be picking this bad boy up as i do not get the 3g love in my area. send the t-mobile version back imo as you will be using at&t's network regardless, this way if you do not like the javelin (aka the curve 2 electric boogaloo) you can return it and get bold goods.

Re: Bold vs Javelin

Javelin arrived safe and sound... however still getting used to the keyboard.. which is so much better than the pearl.. but I'd gotten used to the pearl's cramped keyboard ...lol

#1213395Post 10 of 48

Re: Bold vs Javelin

question, how does it feel? love my curve but still feels as if it was very cheaply made.

#1213398Post 11 of 48

Re: Bold vs Javelin

Feels cheaper than the Bold, but not so compared to the Pearl.. a good upgrade imo.

#1213433Post 12 of 48

Re: Bold vs Javelin

I've heard mixed reports that the curve actually feels better than the bold and the keyboard is easier on the fingers for type-a-holics. The thing that continues to kill me about the curve is the lack of 3G but since there is WiFi I wont complain as much.

The thing that kills me about the bold is the 2 megapixed camera.

Decisions decisions. The reason I stuck on with Tmo was the upgrade option for $79 to the curve (from wirefly.com). If I get the bold, it's twice the price.

Re: Bold vs Javelin

I'm in LOVE with my Javelin. Other than the missing 3G and the smaller form factor (my fat fingers are laying out the typos in all glory), I just love this thing.

Yes the Javelin is a very very nice unit. Initally I was considering the Nokia E71, now I'm glad I didn't go with that.

Re: Bold vs Javelin

what apps did you download on yours? I got

 • Viigo
 • Facebook (though I don't think I'll ever use it)
 • Gmail
 • Google Talk
 • Google Maps
 • Opera Mini (a carry forward from my 8700g but the new browser is slick enough to ignore this)

Re: Bold vs Javelin

you two have me more than excited and anxiously awaiting at&t to get it in my hands. hopefully rim will send me another "demo" unit so i can violate it with my own personal usage.

Re: Bold vs Javelin

you can still snag it with tmo, the version coming to ATT doesnt have 3G either.

Re: Bold vs Javelin

I absolutely LOVE the digital watch/bedside mode. It turns the phone into a mini watch and disable the blinking LED.

i work for the death star so for me to carry an unlocked version of a t-mo phone that we will carry shortly would place me in an area of redicule that i will not soon escape.

so you can disable the flashing service/message indicator light? it just keeps getting better. i charge my bb on my bedside table at night so if i get email or sms i dont have to run down my phone and yes the flashing light does get annoying. i had finally got to a point where i just turn it face down. 8)

Re: Bold vs Javelin

yeap the light goes off and the screen dims to a low light (when the charger is plugged in) showing you the time AND the LED goes off. This is a screen of one of the different clock modes

^^^^ Sweet ain't it :D

I have yet to load my BB with some goodies... google talk, gmail, facebook, yahoo Go is a given. I wonder if they have tetris .. I'd love to have that on the go.

Re: Bold vs Javelin

dusk are you a tweaker? I HAVE to fuck around with my shit (I don't know why I can't fight the urge). And the reason I bring this is up because I downloaded BB OS 5.0 beta for the 8900 and I'm ITCHING to install it.

#1214622Post 26 of 48

Re: Bold vs Javelin

A neurotic Tweaker btw.... just can't help myself lol.. the first day I picked up my itouch.. I almost broke the bloody thing trying to hack/tweak etc... needless to say I pick up gadgets just to tweak them and if they can't me messed around with then I'm not so interested anymore....

Haven' t had the time to mess about with my BB...yet... .waiting patiently till I have a couple hours off at least :D

Re: Bold vs Javelin

I'm soooooo curious to test install it. heard the performance gains of version 5.0 are unlike any other OS release in the past.

Re: Bold vs Javelin

so I managed to (and I still don't know how) scratch the fucking thing. I have an incredible ability to ruin new toys within a week of getting them. Anyone know of any solution to get rid of scratches on glass? (I figured since you can remove scratches from CDs, glass is doable too)

Mucho gracias K!

Bugger on the scratch.. hate when that happens.... I hear Brasso does wonders for the ipod screens.. may work on the BB as well.

Re: Bold vs Javelin

Re: Bold vs Javelin

I cant believe I'm enjoying downloading apps the way I am. You're gonna really enjoy it dude. For sure. Though ATT is getting a revamped slicker version of the new curve, that HAS 3G.

I am so gonna ebay my 8900 when that one is out.

#1225090Post 37 of 48

Re: Bold vs Javelin

so later today im getting a bold from my friend. she works for att and i can get one for like 200$ after rebate, and get a 15% discount on my bill each month :)

i am getting it later today and am selling my iphone 3g on ebay. it looks like the damn thing is selling for what or more than i paid for it! i think since there is an unlock now, people are buying them used for less than they are new w/o a contract so they can use them on their non att carriers.

Re: Bold vs Javelin

my boss called yesterday and told me not to take the curve, he has had it with his bold & is giving it to me. this way saves me from having to spend a penny. gonna take the bold and see how it works out. he is complaining about lesser signal quality than that of his old curve so he is going back to it. gonna rock the bold for a while then wait to see what comes down the pipe before i drop any money. love my job at times. this will be my 4th blackberry that i have not had to pay for.
