Re: Vinyl to Mp3 Mac

from personal experience, behringer products are very low quality, plus this one doesnt appear to have a ground for your turntable.. the imic looks to be the better of the two as it specifically calls out recording from turntables and has a place to ground.. what kind of turntable do you have?

I have the FCA-202 and I use Rogue Amoeba software with it. The firewire feature was why i got it and it works really good.

Re: Vinyl to Mp3 Mac

I have audio hijack pro and they are telling me at the moment that ! can't have an AIFF file bigger than 2gb ?? Does this mean I can't have a bigger file in audio hijack or anything ??? I have to record in aiff as it skips in any lower quality !!

Re: Vinyl to Mp3 Mac

2gbs? What are you recording(multiple mixes or several hours of mixes)?
This is what I have: an iMac 20" with 4 gb of RAM and 2.66 ghz Intel duo core. I got the Behringer with the fire wire in the hopes of squashing any major issues with recording my mixsets and so far has worked really good. I'm personally still trying to learn this set up as I'm an old SoundForge user from my pc which couldn't handle recording anymore because of skips and bleeps due to the age of my processor. As far as it(Audio Hijack) processing anything bigger than 2 gbs I have no idea. I would say that if it can process something that large it will take some time. Not sure if that helps.

Re: Vinyl to Mp3 Mac

I record JJJ Friday and Saturday nights, they are hours long. I have to record in aiff because it skips in anything lower. I then go through and split the sets and convert to mp3 . But it's really annoying to to find it has split at 2 gb and started a new file. Rogue Amoeba told me 2gb is the maximum size for an aiff file. I'm also looking to find something now to rejoin the the files, after conversion.

Re: Vinyl to Mp3 Mac

Sorry its been a few days. That's cool, unfortunately Soundforge doesn't have a version for Macs, then it wouldn't be an issue. http://www.ambrosiasw.com/utilities/wiretap/ might work but I'm sure this is quite similar to audio high jack. As far as rejoining the files, I'm not sure. Sorry I can't be of more help, like I said I'm still trying to learn the Mac way of doing things, if I come across something in my searching for knowledge I will definitely pass it on to you.

Re: Vinyl to Mp3 Mac

Just wondering , what do you want it ripped for? why mp3 and not wav. format .

I mean if you have some Vinyls which are to me like collectors items wouldn't it be better to have them on Wav. for sound quality purposes,

Re: Vinyl to Mp3 Mac

DIDI install Win XP or vista on your laptop and run the windows program from that OS. Piece of cake.

Re: Vinyl to Mp3 Mac

I guess your best option would be one of those audio digital recorders , if you use a software to rip them into your computer most likely the conection is going to be a RCA into a 3.5 mm jack cable . You will def. loose sound quality , unless you have and nice external interface ( sound card ) .

but if it is done from the turntables into the and audio digital recorder the conection would be Rca from Rca , making it sound nice and not loosing audio quality.

Hope this can help

Re: Vinyl to Mp3 Mac
I'm also looking to find something now to rejoin the the files, after conversion.
Mackie's Tracktion 2 may be worth a look Di. Tracktion 3 is their big thing now which may well have more bells and whistles than you need and may be more than you wanna spend?? Since 3 came out, 2 has been available at a steal - go here to create an account and you can get it for $29.99 (us)

If you're running your t/t through a mixer or an amp then you'll have more options as the signal will be at line level so grounding and pre-amplification will be taken care of - the interface you choose depends on budget but may be worth considering recording to something external (i use an iriver hd340) direct to mp3 then simply dragging into your mac - more efficient time-wise too if you have a lot to do as most software takes a while to render the finished file ?
