Re: Just got a new phone
no way are you serious? I know google are good and all but shit there's some serious security hole(s) in that. Not to mention google's incessant need to mine all the data they can, truly dont know what that OS is doing under the hood.
not to mention the G1 looks like a square pancake

Ha! Man I need to find more time to spend on the board more. Ever since I changed jobs I'm rarely able to participate.
K, Google has been really quick at fixing the security holes that come up. I don't know about with the iphone but if its anything like with the Mac itself, they aren't too quick to address things. Even IF there are existing major security holes in the Android platform they aren't as readily exploitable. Eg., Metasploit framework includes exploits for the iphone.
As far as apps anything you see Apple advertising in their commercials is pretty much available on Android - and then some. Apple won't let you run applications in the background so that hinders your ability with certain apps. On my g/f's Android I have a tracker installed so if she loses her phone or goes missing, I can send a text message to turn the app on which launches the gps, grabs coordinates, and updates a secured website. This app is available on the iphone too but its pretty much useless since you can't run the listener in the background.
With the design of the G1, I agree its kinda bulky but thats not going to be the only one on the market. I actually have had android running on my HTC Touch. The guys making this happen are still working out some of the issues but expect to see android available for pretty much any smartphone, including the iphone. I'm sure something more to your liking will come along especially with the cupcake build coming up. Here's a pic of one I'm looking forward to seeing:

Anyways if you haven't played with one yet I suggest you get your hands on one. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Re: Just got a new phone
nice one, that does look rather interesting - BUT - the next gen iphone is rumored to have a processor that's dual core capable which clearly translates into multi-tasking. and since they went from iphone version 1.1 to version 1.2 (with the launch of the 3G iphone), the next version is slated to be 2.1 - which means a SIGNIFICANT hardware upgrade. it's also supposed to be flash friendly which will be a HUGE plus.
and here's one of the rendered speculations
