Any recommendations?

Re: Earphones?

Westone UM2 is what I use. Dual-driver IEMs with punchy bass for EDM. Good separation of sound. They just released Westone 3 (triple driver) which I'd love to get.

cool. I'll check them out.

Re: Earphones?

I love my Sennheisser cx300s. they're still half price on amazon, but aren't that expensive at full price. For wandering around listening to mp3s they're spot on.

Yup good value for money, especially if you're rough with them. I use them for gym and jogs :p

Pretty pricey for some earbuds although my dumbass is about to spend the same for some over-the-ear headphones. I've got a pair of Shure e2c earbuds and for $100 the sound pretty damn good.

Re: Earphones?

Pricey but worth it, especially when I listen to old mp3s and hear new sounds in them thanks to the IEMs. Also I listen to most of my music on the go, which is every morning and evening, so I figured the price evens out from a bit of aural bliss every day ;) I'm glad I didn't get into the whole headphones or home-audiophile stuff.

Re: Earphones?

Westones and Shure E5's are rather too pricey for me at the moment.

I see M-audio do the IE40 earphones (also pricey) - any idea how they compare out of interest ?

#1134245Post 10 of 19

Re: Earphones?

M-audio is suppose to do good speakers. IE140 is supposed to be a rebranded Triple Fi. which is produced by Ultimate Ears, whose Super Fi. Pro was comparable to my Westone Um2 (Super Fi supposed to be bassy-er).

Are you sure the M-audio IE140 is cheaper than the Triple Fi? I just had a look on Head-fi and it sounds like the Triple Fi is the cheaper of the two.

My Westone Um2 is a dual driver, Westone 3 is triple. The IE140/Triple Fi is triple driver. Worth checking out if the IE140 is suited to your budget.

I've very curious about these triple driver IEMs. I suspect we might not get much out of the extra driver with EDM and they might be more suited to classical or acoustic, whatever audiophiles listen to. But if I have the money I'd go with the Westone 3 because I love my UM2s.

zbuds.... still too expensive for me

Re: Earphones?

Shure e2c IEM look like a good mid range option

Re: Earphones?

Get Shure E4's. Shure E2's are shit IMO, no bass. Try to get triple drivers if possible. E5's are overprices and are too fragile. Also, reserve $75 to get custom formed in-ear inserts from a certified audiologist, definitely worth it. They will definitely help if you can only afford the E2's.

PS - I knew the Shure rep. when I worked for a Pro AV company and was able to test each model before they changed and expanded their complete product line a year and a half ago. You can find decently priced factory refurbished E4's online, those are my latest (second set in 3 years) which I use quite a bit from MP3 player, computer listening and video/audio editing work.

Re: Earphones?

I'm thinking about a custom-earplug upgrade for my aging UM2. I just got custom plugs for sleeping, they're difficult to shove in! Not sure if I can use them daily considering the amount of time and twisting just to get them in.

Re: Earphones?

E4s. Interesting.

Re: Earphones?

I got this last month. I know some will say its expensive and most will say they sound shit for EDM but I am returning to listening to a lot of old school rock and stuff I used to love from the 80s / 90s and these work wonderfully for me.

Re: Earphones?

Dude you keep flogging those cans  They're surprisingly decent for EDM too IMO. Bass has nice extension on it.

well some of the sets I heard (that get really punchy) the bass tends to crackle just a notch.

Re: Earphones?

That would be the compression ratio.
