Basic PC visual problem

Evening all

Recently my niece's boyfriend screwed my computer up, but fortunately a friend gave me a new tower (with a faster processor and more memory).

However, since he installed it, the appearance of words is very different. When I'm browsing the net it seems to take ages for the words to 'form' and the scrolling on the screen isn't that smooth either. Really puts me off browsing. Kind of hard to describe, but the letters are not clear and aren't really legible.

Is this something easy or is it a hardware problem? He gave me the same monitor he used with the new tower, so I don't think it's that?

Re: Basic PC visual problem

^Cheers boys, I did that and got two with a qustion mark on. I installed the driver for tone of them, but I'm having problems with the second one (USB Controller). I don't have an installation disc so it wont let me proceed. Surely that is not the reason for the poor visual quality?

Re: Basic PC visual problem

right click on the desktop > properties > settings (or display settings)

or start > settings > control panel > display devices.

what size monitor? the usual resolutions for common ones are 17 inch CRT (big heavy) 1024 x 768 17 inch flat panel - 1280 x 1024 19 inch - possibly 1280 x 1024

adjust it till you see fit, or if its a bigger flat panel. until the text is Sharp and crisp.

Re: Basic PC visual problem

There is also a setting for smooth scrolling which might fix your scrolling problem. Seldom hear of text formling slowly though, it's just text. Try running in Safe Mode and see if the problem goes away, it's most likely a video driver or Direct X issue.

Re: Basic PC visual problem

It was the first driver suggestion that fixed it. The USB thing still has a question mark next to it but doesnt seem to be affecting my PC in any way
