Re: Apple Let's Rock event going on now

i am very happy that the battery on the macbook i bought in april has stopped working this weekend.

i havent even taken the damn laptop out of my house since i bought it. i just use it on the couch. the battery does not charge at all anymore and as soon as the magplug thing becomes loose my laptop dies.

i looked on the apple forums and there seems to be alot of posts related to this, i guess the battery just went bad, but that is pretty quick. i am making an appointment to take it into the apple store by my place tomorrow.

if they give me any shit or make me buy a new one for any reason i am going to be irate, since it is still under warranty.

Re: Apple Let's Rock event going on now

i like those they are just too $. when i need a new comp i am going to build another one and do it cheaply.

if i have to pay much $ to get this battery fixed i am not buying another apple product. my 2nd gen ipod died after a year or so because the hard drive went out on it too. bleh.

Re: Apple Let's Rock event going on now

as for the event:

they introduced a thinner itouch, blah

a new ipod nano, which looks awesome btw.

and itunes 8, which is pretty much making itunes into 1 big commercial. the whole album picture thing is worthless to me and the genius sidebar will be more of an annoyance than anything else.

overall, was a real crappy show. they showed new items for the first 30 minutes then took 25 minutes to play soccer and a racing game on the touch. just a lame show, overall. :(

Epic fail ... and I didn't even turn on Genius in iTunes after the update. Didn't even look at it, went straight to 'hide sidebar.'

yup, all that new stuff added like 15mb to the size too.

all of it is crap, disabled all the new shit.

epic fail indeed.

Re: Apple Let's Rock event going on now

You think the core iTunes code must've stabilised at some point, and we can just run that version forever without updating? Like I was using winamp 2.81 for YEARS. They can't possibly be tweaking sound playback anymore, it's just a simple mp3 decoder. What the hell.

Re: Apple Let's Rock event going on now

i fuckin cant stand itunes. too bad i have to use it to update my iphone.

it is such a pain in the ass to find any music i want when i import it because it organizes by tags. i want it to be more intelligent and let me browse via hard drive directories if i fukin want to. plus half the time i try and change the id3 tags on stuff it wont take, so my stuff is a bitch to find on my iphone when i am driving and wanting to change music.

i still use winamp exclusively when i have to use windows. Turn off all the new skin crap, and all of the extra media BS and it is still a great small and fast media player that i can minimize at the top of my screen while working and it stays out of the way of all my app menus. most of the time i use Amarok on Linux.

http://amarok.kde.org/

This looks like itunes and is 1000x better.

Plus apple needs to learn how to release a damn patch instead of making millions of people download 40 megs of shit every update instead of a 4 MB patch bundle.

Re: Apple Let's Rock event going on now

Actually all their software updates come in big sizes. Like Quicktime updates, Airport, etc.

Maybe they feel there's a less risk of fucking up any installation by forcing a full install.

Re: Apple Let's Rock event going on now

i like itunes a lot. i have it set to where it doesnt use itunes folders, and i have it on my iphone where it does not automatically sync.

everything is set where i have to do everything myself.

what i dont care for is al the extra bullshit that i do not need. they need to release like an itunes lite or something.

Re: Apple Let's Rock event going on now

Just a quick question on ipod's. I currently have a 1st generation nano (1 GB) and was looking at the new nano's. What generation are the new nano's? If i'm going to buy one I want to make sure it works with my little ihome sitting on my desk. There's absolutely nothing wrong with my ipod now but was looking more toward getting more space, but if it doesn't work with my ihome then I'm not going to worry about it. I'm hoping that the connectors are still the same and I can just buy a new one and it will work with the ihome.

Re: Apple Let's Rock event going on now

Connectors should be the same, Apple has never changed the connectors in every generation. Those speakers usually come with some sort of adaptors so they can accomodate the different sizes of the ipod and ipod nano. But that said, the latest ipod nano has a different form factor so you still need to see if it can be plugged in.
What generation are the new nano's?
New ones are the 4th generation.

1st and 2nd (1st gen had silver backs and was not rounded like the 2nd):

Re: Apple Let's Rock event going on now

Thanks guys! I was looking at a 3rd generation tonight and the guy I talked to wasn't sure if the new generation would work either. He didn't have the ihome model there so we could try it, but tomorrow I'm going to a store that does have one so I can try it out. I appreciate the input. I'm really digging the look of those new nano's so i'm a little torn. Hopefully it will work. :)
