Stop errror/Blue Screen problems

Alright guys I need your assistance. If left unattended, my computer will shut down and restart itself. The problem report I'm getting is that it is a stop error/blue screen error and that it may be a problem with my computer hardware. I've checked my device manager and everything seems to be intact and all drivers are updated. Any suggestions or anyone else have this type of issue before.

I've built this computer from the ground up, so I have no customer service department to call into.
Thanks

Re: Stop errror/Blue Screen problems

Have you made any hardware/software changes recently? Sometimes these will cause the blue screen errors.

I haven't made any new hardware/software changes in a while.

Re: Stop errror/Blue Screen problems

I had similar problems with a PC a few years ago, and the fan ended up being the culprit -- it was overheating. Maybe check into that?

Re: Stop errror/Blue Screen problems

try to grab the stop error too...Googling it will at least give you a rough idea of what may be failing and/or causing it. (check the error log too).

Could be as simple as something overheating which would trigger a BSOD. Program like Speedfan can give you temp. readouts.

Vista or XP?

Also taking one of the RAM bars out can be a start and easy to check. Maybe one of your bars has a defect and is causing the bluescreens.

Vista of course

Re: Stop errror/Blue Screen problems

I would consider backing up any important information asap. All those restarts may lead to not being able to get to it again. Do as a few other have suggested and get a thermal monitoring program, start up a few programs to get some heat going and watch it for a while. Couldn't hurt to check the seating of the cpu fan.
