Hi

i have lots of kit:-, consoles, laptops, desktops etc but am thinking of getting a macbook pro. Do they get hot ? ..or is there sufficient cooling provided, i don't buy the it just works as i know MACS have the same issues as windows boxes.

I'm looking at a core 2 duo 2.5 so i can run vm sessions with linux/windows

Or would you suggest waiting for a centrino2 version ?

thanks

Re: Are MACs all that ?

Yes macs are easier to work with and they are faster. It takes my Toshiba laptop over a minute to completely load up when starting.

It takes my mac about 15-20 seconds.

Re: Are MACs all that ?

I got a MBP last September (15 in, 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo) and it's just as powerful and functional, if not more so, as my desktop which is only a couple of months older. It's my first Mac, so I'm a little partial to recommending it because I love OSX, but I also run VMWare Fusion on here and have multiple versions of Windows installed as well as Ubuntu.

Depending on how urgent the purchase is, I would hold off and wait on the new model to come out. Unfortunately, this thing sometimes gets balls-hot which is somewhat due to nVidia's defective 8600M GT chip (I popped for Apple Care for a little insurance in case it goes down in flames), so maybe they'll have a better chipset in a newer model. I have a widget that gives me temperatures of different components in the computer, and at peak computing times (such as with Fusion open), the CPU and GPU both get up to 160-170 degrees F. Normally it's ok and stays around 120 though.

Bottom line: get a MBP, but hold off and wait for the new models of them that should be coming out fairly soon. I hear there's some good stuff in store with the new ones.

They get as hot as any other notebooks ... I mean, Mac don't sell themselves on been 'cooler' than other notebooks.
