Am not much of an iPhone fan but the following additions/changes to it definitely have made me give it a second thought

 • 3G (nearly approaching wifi speeds)
 • GPS (merged with google everything)
 • $199 for 8 gb / $299 for 16 gb (latter being my choice)

I wish they had a real keyboard, I'd take it in a heartbeat.

#1032988Post 2 of 141

Re: 3G iPhone

Yeah I will be tempted by that too, but might just go for the 8gb since I just bought a 80gb ipod classic last year.

Re: 3G iPhone

though that BB Bold is top on my list right now. the 675 mhz processor with full MMX is the fastest processor in any phone in existence today.

#1032994Post 4 of 141

Re: 3G iPhone

But the Bold is fugly ... but you're right about the lack of keyboard ... a lot of people have reported lousy typing on the iphone; not for the SMS warriors.

#1032996Post 5 of 141

Re: 3G iPhone

I find the bold rather attractive...... as for keyboard.... you can include webhosting email support to that ;) ...

^ Toys rule. Brad... where in the country are you going to be that would support 3G? I've had nothing but shit service throughout the Portland, Springfield and Medford areas. It's been better in Medford and the absolute worse around Portland. Just a word of caution if you aren't already with AT&T.

yea i have been very curious about cell service reviews. i have been trying google searches on different carrier's service but nothing of any substance has come up.

if you know a reliable site that does these comparisons, geography specific would be ideal, that would be a lot of help.

how u been beanz?

Re: 3G iPhone

I thought Kamal posted something once that showed reviews or cell coverage in zones in the US. I could be wrong. I've heard it's happened before. :p

I've been awesome. Seriously. Work still fucking rules and so does my PS3. :p

Re: 3G iPhone

Do what I do. Shit your pants and smear it on the couch. Gets me out of jury duty every time. Especially, when I ask for a hand to help me wipe it and I literally grab their hand.

Re: 3G iPhone

According to gizmodo, Apple is lowering the iPhone price, but over time you will be paying even MORE than the current iPhone due to the increase in the plan cost.
Since Apple announced that they're lowering the price for iPhone 3G down to $199, people have been rumbling about how the increased AT&T data plan price negates any savings you get up front on the phone. Over two years, the iPhone 3G will cost $160 more over the original iPhone.
http://gizmodo.com/5015540/iphone-3gs-true-price-compared

#1033717Post 20 of 141

Re: 3G iPhone

yea the data plan went up to $30 from $20 so you pay like $40 more over the 2 year contract price. but $40 over 2 years vs. $200 lower at one shot is definitely more sensible

Re: 3G iPhone

I'll stick to my N95

Love it!

touch screen? naaah.. .don't really need it

gps? 3g? had that about a year ago :)

Re: 3G iPhone

i'm thinking about getting one of the old ones for 79 euros. phoneandphone.com has a deal where you get an unlocked iphone if you sign up for a 24 month contract, which i can get at 24 euros a month. i only really want to use it cause my ipod is dying and my french phone is a piece of shit

#1043313Post 23 of 141

Re: 3G iPhone

so i am debating getting this (once i can find one after all the fanboys camp out and buy them all). just resigned up for sprint a couple of months ago, which the service is fine, but the phone i have is a piece of shit :( i really would like to have this playtoy...seriously thinking about it. anyone know how much it costs to break out of a sprint contract nowdays?

Prices for the iPhone are out in Australia. AUD729 for 8GB and 849 for 16GB without any plans. But there's the usual contract plans as well. How does that compare with the US?

AT&T also confirmed that they will be subsidizing the price for new and current iPhone customers at the WWDC-announced price of $199 (8GB) and $299 (16GB). These prices are specifically available to the following customers:

 • iPhone customers who purchased before July 11
 • Customers activating a new line with AT&T
 • Current AT&T customers who are eligible, at the time of purchase, for an upgrade discount

For AT&T customers who are ineligible for the subsidized pricing, AT&T is offering an "early upgrade" price of $399 (8GB) and $499 (16GB). You can check your eligibility in your online AT&T account (screenshot).

i work for at&t and i am not recommending it to customer because of the price hike. with the old iphone plan u got text messaging included but with the new plan it doesnt come included so you gotta pay extra on top of the $30.

Not true, what the chart seems to undermine is support for third party applications which have opened up a world of possibilities for this mobile device. Video Recording has been implemented naively by third party developers, an application that's coming out soon even allows you to record video and send it straight to youtube or your facebook account *pretty fuckin sweet ;) * MMS is also something that has been integrated as an app through third party developers.. n for txt msging buffs, I can write text messages faster on this device then i could on my old nokia 95... The touchsreen keyboard's autocorrection feature is quite sophisticated.

Only complient i've got is with apples CEO Steve Jobs, which presents a gift n a curse type scenario... Iphone has been Beautifully designed, with attention focused on the smallest of details with optimal functionality, while on the flipside JOB's restricted ONE vision reality of how he wants the device to function is what relaly caps its potential , namely having payed 500 plus US dollars for my device, and not being able to send pictures via bluetooth, lol fuckin jokes..

Despite Apples closed philopshy the coming of the new 2.0 software, along with the rapid growth of the underground development community, which have been responsible for jailbroken, cracked and ready to function on non-AT&T carriers, has given rise to a truely different mobile experience. 100's upon 100's of apps have been created within the underground community, making this device one i've grown quite fond of...

Wont be upgrading to the 3g iphone, felt it was a HUGE dissapointment.. No second camera for video confrencing, not even the implementation of an apple made video recording application... N sadly there is no 3g support in Lebanon anyway, making me not even want to purchase the newer one... What i've found is ppl either love it or hate it... Never get that inbetween feel for it... Although i have to admit having my favourite mp3 player mixed in with a phone, n a USEABLE web-browser is pretty much any tech-junkies dream winky

Re: 3G iPhone

yeah i am suprised that they didnt include mms functionality in it, what the hell? did they just wait to let a 3rd party to that, and hopefully distribute it on the upcoming apps store? also i dont want to pay 10$ for an app to do this, when it should be for free. hopefully they better not be charging for something like this.

i am sure there will be some cool apps to play with here soon, i am probably going to switch my service here soon so i can play with one of these. too bad i just got into my new damn sprint contract with a crappy phone :(

But yes, expect some wicked apps coming out! the frameworks which the Iphone utilizes really opens up another dimension for development of some really crazy apps, n im sure on July the 11th when the 2.0 software is seeded officialy by Apple, we'll be in for some big suprises ;)
I'm not so sure I want to upgrade my iPhone. Is it really worth it to get the new one?
-> The older ones are no longer sold, n for all those who paid a hefty amount of money for theres, they should be kept because the onlly difference between the new one and old one, is that the new one supports 3G access to internet, along with GPS; while the old one has no 3g, n utilizes assited GPS via cellular networks n wi-fi hotspots.

So the way i see it, if you've got wireless router at home, and own an old iphone, theres really no need to upgrade, unless offcourse ppl are fans of the new white back on the new one, which is rather affemenite if you ask me... But then again, if your lookin to change up the look so yours looks kinda unique , sights like | http://www.colorwarepc.com/p-103-iphone.aspx | are offering very distinctive feels for the device winky

took me about a day to get used to the qwerty keypad from the regular nokia numpad

#1044599Post 38 of 141

Re: 3G iPhone

i hear it might take a few days to get used to the keypad and the autocorrrection, but after that its supposed to be faster than a normal qwerty, is this true?

#1044602Post 39 of 141

Re: 3G iPhone

typing is fine, although i wish i could put it in french and still have a qwerty and not an azerty. the french T9 also kinda sucks

the only thing that really pisses me off is the ipod for listening to sets. unlike a normal ipod, where you can spin the dial to seek to a certain point, you have to slide your finger along the short seek bar. basically it's impossible to listen to that one cool song that starts at 23:15. you can get close to where you want, but making short seek adjustments is a fucking hassle. has anyone found a way to deal with this?

Thanks for the help. I have wifi at home and at work, so I probably won't get a new one, unless my old iPhone breaks.
