Macs are awesome -- there was a recent thread on why here:

Also, check out this article, which compares the two:

Re: who owns macs here ?

I have a homebrew XP desktop and a Dell laptop and haven't touched the laptop since getting my MacBook 3 months ago. I love my Mac, the thing just works...as silly as it sounds after working with XP for years OSX makes me almost forget that i'm working with a computer.

Re: who owns macs here ?

Os is not OS. Brad can read and that's why he was asking the question. Mike needs to go back to school. As for which is better, it really depends on what applications you use and how stupid you are. No, really. My wife needs something pre-built because she's a woman and would not be able to design and put together a proper system. Macs are great because Apple designs their hardware to work with their software. It'd be pretty bad if they couldn't get their own stuff to work right. If you have a brain that can allow you to walk and chew gum, then the possibilities are endless.

Re: who owns macs here ?

lol

Am working on an intel imac since one week, and apart from getting to know the differences between os leopard and winblows i gotta say it's about 100 times more stable than the pc i had before. Best thing is that they're also really silent (passive cooling i think) and you don't have to shut them down after 36hrs because the ram memory is clogged.

Apart from that, my home pc is on XP pro latest release and is pretty damn stable so far...

Re: who owns macs here ?

I have a 17" MacBook Pro laptop and a 24" iMac desktop and thoroughly enjoy them both.

I'm a long time PC guy - my background is software development, databases, etc. - and thought those sales people at the Mac store constantly chanting, "It just works." and "It makes computing fun." were total tards.

Well, I guess I'm a tard. I don't know how else to really state it, but OSX just simply works - really damn well. It's stable and intuitive to use.

As for the fun bit, it is true. Brainwashed or not. I use Vista at work (I'm tolerating it as much as possible without taking a big magnet across my freaking hard drive every day...) and am constantly asking myself - why in the world did Microsoft do it like X? I mean, seriously they could have just ripped Leopard off - taken the flack - but maybe people would have actually liked it! OSX is straightforward and to just get stuff done simply works. You don't lose files trailing all over your hard drive, applications don't dirty things up making you do the quarterly XP/Vista drive format to start over...

OSX is really an excellent option, and if you can do all your apps on Mac, great.

I actually also use VMware Fusion to virtualize XP and do video editing with Sony Vegas. Works great. So if you have Windows specific apps, you can always go there for the nominal price of about $80 (Parallels or Fusion is that at list, you can always find it cheaper).

Get one, you won't regret it.

aaaaaaaaahahahahahhhahaa, rulesss

i dont know why every time someone mentions OSX, everyone starts chanting it is better than everything else you could find in the pack of cornflakes. Beans got it right, everything else can be read in few threads around this one.

but how can you lose your files on the PC? what quarterly format?
