I am looking to buy a Full HD LCD TV for my living room. I searched for 32 and 37 inches TV's and strangely, a 37"" Full HD TV costs not much more than a 32"" HD ready TV. It's the same brand, same panel used and more or less the same features are available. How comes that you get a bigger screen with better resolution for quite the same money? Is there another disadvantage (besides that you need the room for it maybe lol) I did not count in so far? I have seen these similar prices not only in products from the same brand but it seems to be like this in general. 5 inches more and full HD resolution you get for almost the same as you pay for 5 inches less with only a HD ready resolution. :what

32"" vs. 37"" LCD TV
Re: 32"" vs. 37"" LCD TV
If I remember reading it correctly, there are only 4 lcd/plasma dispaly manufacturers in the world, all the well known brands who sell TVs (sony, philips, etc) buy from these 4 manufacturers, package it with their skin and tweak the display with their proprietary software to improve image quality.
So when you buy 32 vs 37", you're pretty much getting the same display in both TVs (remember the resolution is still the same no matter what the surface/display area of the front screen), the same software, the same connectors etc. etc. The only additional cost is the larger size of the front glass, which isn't too much and so the price difference is marginal.

that's not strictly true, larger screens can (not all) have higher resolutions which is why to get true 1080p you have to go higher than 32"
Re: 32"" vs. 37"" LCD TV
^^ beg to differ, 1080p = 1920 x 1080 lines, whether you dump that in a 60" screen or a 32" screen, the number of lines stays the same. Thats why smaller screens "appear" clearer than larger screens because artifacts are magnified.
And you can get full hidef in 32".
Re: 32"" vs. 37"" LCD TV
Yes there are also 32"" LCD's available in full HD...I have seen them while searching. The size does not seem to be the problem..I mean already a 24"" TFT for the PC displays 1980x1200 pixels. What Kamal said sounds right to me..I thought there was maybe a huge disadvantage and I should rather spend 100 bucks more and get a classy 32" LCD but now I think I am going for the size.
Re: 32"" vs. 37"" LCD TV
then I have been misinformed...
I will hunt them down and punish them though...
Re: 32"" vs. 37"" LCD TV
I ended buying this one:

37"" Full HD, 3xHDMI, 2x30W Speakers (which is quite massive for LCD TV's and a further reason to buy it), 100 hz and true 24p. This should be a feast for the PS3 and bluray movies. I also bought a rack and a longer optical cable to connect it to my hifi amplifier..this is going to be fun. Gotta love men toys :)
Re: 32"" vs. 37"" LCD TV
you lucky ...
i want that toy, too.
Re: 32"" vs. 37"" LCD TV
37" monitors in 1080P is newer and wasn't available in the past. You cannot get a 32" monitor with full HD capabilities. Not yet. So for now, Titan is correct.
Good choice there, Tom. Those Toshiba Regzas are getting decent reviews and although they aren't the best, they are good for the pricing. Great value at low prices.
Next time, go for a 73". ;)

I would need a bigger flat for that in the 1st place. :) The Toshiba got great revievs beeing connected to a PS3 and it is supposed to do native 24p and not "faked" like other TV's do it. As I said before, there are 32 "" Full HD LCD TV's available...I searched half a week till I made the decision and saw numerous 32"" TV's in Full HD. First I thought maybe they are only available in Europe at this stage but seeing Kamal's links it seems they are also available in US markets.

As for the Fry's reference, I'm sorry that you have to pay more for things because you don't have one near you. No need to hate me because I don't need a work visa. ;)

Re: 32"" vs. 37"" LCD TV

Now I know what happened and I am in one minute laughing my ass off and in the next minute mad because I can't believe how stupid they are! It took them four days to find out they delievered my TV to completely different part in the periphery of Frankfurt, in a completely different street and without knowing it I am sure in a house where my family name was not even on the door because this would be a strange coincedence. I don't need to tell they gave a shit about my instructions to deliever it to either one of two neighbors I trust enough to keep an over thousand Euro expensive parcel for me for a day. They obviously gave it to a random guy and all I heard from the driver this evening was that he saw at least 20 dudes from Poland lurking around in the house and he sees no chance to get it back. They will contact Amazon to send me a new one and I am sure, somewhere in Frankfurt Sindlingen there is now a very happy polnish dude with a huge Full HD TV and he is laughing HIS ass off. I faxed my complaints both to the fucking delievery service and Amazon and now wait what happens......
Re: 32"" vs. 37"" LCD TV
I got my refund from Amazon and the dorks payed everything back. It was an order with four different items and the three others have arrived normally and are fine so I made at least 190 Euros thanks to the good guys @ Amazon customer service.....well deserved after that chaos and I surely won't open my mouth and tell them about another fault. I did not want to order a new one via Internet so I went to a store and after some haggling I bought the 40"" LE40F8 from Samsung. Same details like the Toshiba I wanted initially but three inches more....

That's GT5: Prologue and that is the Ford GT LM II Spec Test Car.
Re: 32"" vs. 37"" LCD TV
shit just look at that image........ its insane
Re: 32"" vs. 37"" LCD TV
Yeah. I'm a massive fan of the Gran Turismo series. The main reason why I ever bought the first generation PlayStation as well as 2 and now 3 but we all know that blu-ray is that added bonus on the recent purchase. ;)
You ever play those games, Kamal? It's not what you'd expect. It is a true driving simulator in the sense that a VW Beetle wouldn't beat the pants off of a Ferrari F430.
Re: 32"" vs. 37"" LCD TV
I think I have one of the GTs (from the PS1) where I had to race, earn money, buy add ons / modified cars. I loved that one. The PS3 IS on my list of future-purchases.... seems I already have a game to snag with it
Re: 32"" vs. 37"" LCD TV
Our Xbox 360 died so I am not going to plunk any more money into that POS. Going to spend it on more gear and games for the PS3. That thing has been running rock solid since December and I'm going to get another one in the bedroom when we upgrade that television.
So back on topic, Tom... how you enjoying that screen of yours? I've got my eye on the LN46A650. Been reading lots and lots of great reviews and most of the issues that people had originally have been sorted through firmware updates.

Yep.
I am not able to finish the last 2 races of the 700 HP series and also how overtaking 15 opponents with a F40 is possible is beyond me in the S series  but I love that car.
Re: 32"" vs. 37"" LCD TV
I've been slacking off in the S class and am half way through. I've been racing online since you get a lot more credits that way. Now I'm just on a spree to buy every color of every car.
Re: 32"" vs. 37"" LCD TV
I tried the online mode but each time I checked it out there were lags without end...cars jumping randomly forward and back.
Re: 32"" vs. 37"" LCD TV
You need a faster connection. ;)
Re: 32"" vs. 37"" LCD TV
Yeah 16mbit is just not good enough.
