Mac OS 10.5.2 = Apple Vista?

Maybe you Mac users should know this, just in case you go updating.

In February Apple began shipping their Time Capsule backup appliance which allowed me to have a wireless network and shared network attached storage – something I’d been waiting for. Time Capsule allowed Apple’s new Time Machine software to automatically back up my data to a shared network drive and restore it easily. A great concept, but it still needs some bugs worked out (that’s a topic for another article.)

In order to get my machine to see, utilize and understand the Time Capsule, I had to upgrade my Mac to 10.5.2. Without hesitation, I did. From that day forward I’ve been running the worst operating system I’ve run on a Mac in years. My machine now runs slower and if I run more than a few applications at a time, it barely operates. It takes nearly six minutes to wake from sleep, and when it does finally wake, the mouse bounces around uncontrollably and requires a hard shut down to fix.

And i have to comment about ultra smart talkbacks, i thought that we have this only here. cheers

Re: Mac OS 10.5.2 = Apple Vista?

Hmm. I'm pretty sure I'm running 10.5.2 right now (I'm at work on a PC and can't check) and haven't had any problems. Will have to double-check when I get home...

havent had an issue with 10.5.2 and we have it in the field on about 80 machines already.

Remember, this is a 10.x OS and .5.2 is an updated version. Just trying to keep the slower people on here from being confused. Isn't that right, Dom?

Re: Mac OS 10.5.2 = Apple Vista?

I think most Apple users would've already updated to .2 as that came out a few months ago!

No such problems here, no mouse issues, no slow downs. I didn't even notice much improvements in anything after the update.

clean installs are the only upgrade

Re: Mac OS 10.5.2 = Apple Vista?

i'd rather just get a lacie 1t external and back up whenever I felt like it. Not like this thing is going to go haywire.

from 10.5 to 10.5.3 in what 7 months ? even Vista took nearly a year to release a service pack

Thats because Microsoft takes their sweet time and doesn't address issues in a timely manner. Is that a good thing?

Re: Mac OS 10.5.2 = Apple Vista?

actually I read (pcmag iirc) that Microsoft released patches/fixes way faster than Apple did based on a count of the number of bugs discovered and fixes released. Now I'm not a Microsoft man by a long shot (I've always adored the beauty of *Nix ... and that now would include the OSX) but shit c'mon..... 3 huge releases is something to be knocked about.

Re: Mac OS 10.5.2 = Apple Vista?

actually this is what I had read (though not from this site)

http://it.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/03/27/2011229
Microsoft or Apple - Who Is the Faster Patcher?

"And the answer is... Microsoft. Researchers from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology analyzed 658 high-risk and medium-risk vulnerabilities affecting Microsoft products and 738 affecting Apple. They measured how many times over the past six years the two vendors were able to have a patch available on the day a vulnerability became publicly known, which they call the 0-day patch rate. What they found: 'Apple was below 20 [unpatched vulnerabilities at disclosure] consistently before 2005,' said Stefan Frei, one of the researchers involved in the study. 'Since then, they are very often above. So if you have Apple and compare it to Microsoft, the number of unpatched vulnerabilities are higher at Apple.'"
