Whats the point? This sounds like Intel are starting a new marketing gimmick akin to the mhz race.

agreed, we dont even have software thats totally abusing dual / quad cores yet, just dont see the point having 6 cores cooking your environment.

I can see this being a HUGE deal in the corporate, education, research, etc. market but on the home and regular consumer level? Nah.

Yeah i can definitely see it being used for science. But will take a long time to be used for graphic design and gaming and music production.
It took something like a year or two before Ableton and apple even came out with Dual processor support. So it's gonna be a while before it get's any more. They still need to get quad processor support going.

True it'll be ages before we make use of them, but can't expect Intel to sit around and wait for the developers to catch up either. The upside is by the time we actually make full use of these multi-cores, the technology would've advanced so much the prices of these chips would be dirt cheap, and we'll have them in everything when we actually need them.
