ok folks, i got this computer Acer Aspire L100, anyway it came with Vista basic/starter some sort of that, anyway, this friend told me format it and put Xp on it, so it will run faster and better, i agree with him, so i did!

now, y reinstall all the drivers and i can connect to the internet via USB not Ethernet, so im piss off, why?

coz my friend only have the ethernet cable, anyway, is that things that you know you can do, but you cant, but you know there is a WAY!! theres allways a WAY! rite?

so when i connect the USB cable it detect internet and the LOCAL AREA NETOWORK ON NETWORK CONNECTION appear, but if i unplug the usb it dissapear, and if i connect the ethernet cable it doesnt appear, but the AMBAR light in the back of the CPU where the cable goes is turn on, so i mean is giving it the signal rite?

i went to the bios and check that the ethernet is right, and it is, so, with vista he could connect to the internt but now with xp he cant...

so he bring me again his computer and i can surf tru the webs and everything.....but via USB

does anyone know what shite is happening?

i also tried to create another local area network but it doesnt let me, whenever i click no others icons appear only that 1394 one, and that doesnt work for shite!..its doesnt give me ip adress or dns gateways nothing...

any ideas? thanks!

Re: !!!!urgent!!!!!

Assume you installed the ethernet drivers?? Open up your Device Manager and see if there're any exclamation points over any network devices ...

Re: !!!!urgent!!!!!

I'm a bit rusty with this stuff :what Could it be that when you plugged into the USB for internet, Win XP created a network bridge, and now is routing everything to USB, hence no connectivity on your Ethernet port? :NotMe:

Can you try right-clicking on the 1394 Connection 2 and dsiable that?

^^ IGNORE ... 1394 is Firewire, shouldn't have anything to do with USB. You could try anyway, doubt if it will make it worse

Re: !!!!urgent!!!!!

this problem happens to me almost every time i install XP PRO on my old compaq.

i goto compaq's website and look for my specific comptuer and there are network card drivers for it..

sounds like you dont have your network drivers installed.

research your computer model and find out what kind of network card you have and find drivers for it.
