Trouble w/ connection :(

I'm trying to hookup my mixer to my soundcard so I can record me spinning. I think I have a good recording program (wavlab3), although I'm open to any recommendations anyone might have. I bought a 2 to 1 cable that connects to the back of my router in the record out slots. I connected the other end directly into my soundcard in the black hole (the end of the cable has a black stripe around it). Am I doing anything incorrectly? I open wavlab and turn on something that comes out of my regular speakers but there's no movement in the new wavlab window I've opened. Are the cables connected correctly? Do I need a different program? Am I stupid? :)

Thanks for the help.

Re: Trouble w/ connection :(

well i usually use sound forge, i just put a RCA(White, red cables) into the mixer in the rec outs, and the other part (plug, like a regular hearphones) into mic i just enable the mix in your soundcard setting and do some test with the program to check the levels and that kinda stuff...

i do that and it works fine with me...not sure if that help you...since i dont have a proper sound card for do it...

Re: Trouble w/ connection :(

The "hearphone" is a mini-stereo jack. Is it working for you now?

Re: Trouble w/ connection :(

The red one is usually for audio IN. All the rest should be audio OUT (ok, I also have a light blue line-in) If color don't help you, check for logos near connectors or for some text. If that fail too, try to find the manual of your audiocard. Your last hope will be the website of the manufacturer.
