At long last, my new toy has arrived. Man, this thing is the shit. I feel like an idiot for running Windows for the last 9 years...

Spent all last night just dipping around with it. The thing that amazed me is that I turned it on, located my wireless internet connection, and just like that, it was networked to every other computer in my house. Syncing to my iTunes library on my office computer was a breeze. Absolutely blew me away -- I think back to the week and a half it took me to get my Vista computer to recognize the XP computers in the house...

Re: New MacBook

Welcome to the real world of computing.

I was the same way. I stayed up all night. It is simply amazing how things work. Leopard is a beautiful world, cover flow is such a rad way to browse files and docs.

What did you get spec'd out if you do not mind me asking? ;)

Re: New MacBook

A friend of a friend broke their display on their macbook and I had the pleasure of replacing it. It took 3 and a half hours. oof!
What did you get spec'd out if you do not mind me asking? ;)
At the end of the day, I couldn't justify the extra for the MacBook Pro because:

 1. I don't work on anything graphic intensive, and
 2. I actually wanted the smaller screen because it is a travel computer and after lugging a "desktop replacement" style laptop around the country for the last couple of years, I was eager to get something more svelte.
 3. It's computer number 4 in our house of 2 people, so no need to unnecessarily blow my wad.

Relevant specs:

 • 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
 • 2GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM - 2x1GB
 • 160GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm
 • Superdrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)

You know the rest. As it turns out, though, this unit (minus the extra gig of RAM) actually out-performed a 2.2 MBP in this review, so I was happy to see that:

I bought it from MacMall and bought one of their packages that come with Parallels and Windows XP SP2 pre-installed -- was cheaper than buying the components and installing it myself. Gotta commend MacMall, by the way -- I had it shipped 2nd day, but there was an issue with my credit card (evidently Chase requires you to authorize large online purchases), and the transaction didn't go through until the following evening. Dang if I didn't get the MacBook on the day it was originally supposed to arrive anyway. Tip of the hat, for sure...

Re: New MacBook

Most people wait till their standard warranties are just about to end before getting applecare to extend it anyway.
