Re-Installing Vista

I bought a laptop with Vista pre-installed and reformatted, now I get an error message every couple of days stating that my product registration key is invalid. I went on a fact finding mission on other forums and was surprised that this is wide spread issue with Vista. Has anyone else on here experienced this? If so what did you do?

I have Vista registration hack that I stumbled upon, but haven't used it yet. Just curious to see if anyone else has run into this.

Re: Re-Installing Vista

Thats a new one, seems license keycodes are being hacked up. You may want to call MS and try and sort it before re-istalling. I've seen that Vista activation hack in action, its incredible how quick this guy got it to work and how well it actually works.

Re: Re-Installing Vista

Call Microsoft first, if you have a valid key it should be no problem to get another one.

Re: Re-Installing Vista

results thus far:

microsoft: we can not help you, it is an issue with the manufacturer. apparently microsoft sells a generalized key to the manufacturers (hp, dell, etc.) and this is the code they use when installing. from what i understand if you have to reformat using the disc included, you have a 50/50 chance of the product key not working. seems to be quite of few people are running into this, including myself unfortunately.

hp: take the computer back where it came from. can't - bought it uber cheap from a customer of mine

about to try the hack to see what results i get. will keep you posted.

you could have used a crack or any other activator software if you needed.

you are still a legal owner of that copy of windows, if it came with your notebook. just remember you have license for the product it was preinstalled on your computer, if it brought vista home, you cannot use ultimate (well, you can.. but illegal copy)

Re: Re-Installing Vista

how would you upgrade to ultimate ? just upgrade the serial number or ?

I looked into doing this but, I really did not want to have to spend the time reformatting again. I was more or less looking for an activation code to enter rather than have to reformat to enter the codes I "found" Still have a hack just wanted to find another way around.

from what I understand, it's just that easy

Re: Re-Installing Vista

I'm not sure. We have different DVDs for Enterprise or Ultimate at work.

Re: Re-Installing Vista

interprise is suppose to be a different disc, yes, but all other versions you can install by entering different serials
