Black Screen of Death???

So I started my compy and ended up with this black screen and a blinking cursor at the top left hand of the screen. So I rebbooted and no go no juice no nothing.

I automatically thought my Power supply went out. So I took out the HD and tried it on another comp. Same thing.

I went to the BIOS and it eads the HD. I tried to let the comp boot off the XP CD and still no go.

I've read on-line that the HD maybe ok it's just something is blocking it from going to the boot-up. Not sutre what else to do. I'd truly appreciate and oh yeah feels damn good to be back at MS...Jibby can still kiss my ass ;-)

Re: Black Screen of Death???

same thing as in no juice? or just the black screen

I'm presuming nothing has been done to the drive recently...either way sounds like a possible disk corruption...either a partition/boot record problem or something within windows itself, which would require a re-install/repair.

Check your IDE/SATA cable? Disc in your optical drive and it's trying to boot off of it?

Re: Black Screen of Death???

Hey guys sorry for the late reply. Yeah it's weird . I turned the comp on and it went directly to the back screen with the cursor. So I shut off and then nothing no pwer what so ever.

This is what made me think the power supply went out since I've the same power suplly for over 5 years.

I never thought about checking the IDFE cable. I'll do some test ansd see what heppans Much thanks to all!

Re: Black Screen of Death???

Thinking it would be the power supply is the wrong course of action to take in the beginning. You should start with the smallest, simplest things and work your way down the chain. For example, if your brakes on your Yugo are screeching, do you go and see if you have your gas tank full?
