Re: Updates on Macbooks?

check this out, from macrumors.com:

http://www.macrumors.com/2007/10/09/new-macbooks-by-november/
ThinkSecret reports that Apple is set to introduce new MacBook updates soon after the release of Mac OS X Leopard (10.5). Leopard is rumored to be launched on October 26th, and the rumor site expects the new MacBooks to be in the hands of consumers "by the first half of November, if not sooner."

According to their sources, the MacBook update will be a relatively modest update, and simply bump processor speeds. It's unknown if the new MacBooks will adopt the Santa Rosa architecture that adopted by the MacBook Pros in June. ThinkSecret also believes this will be the last Apple hardware revision before the holidays.
Re: Updates on Macbooks?

If only the Macbooks have al casings and the same keyboard as the MBP. I don't need the dedicated graphics as much as I need a good keyboard to type with.

if they do something like that there is no real reason to keep the macbook line if the only difference is a video card =\ Might as well make that an optional upgrade when you configure it.... but then again, most people are idiots and will buy it because it is a "Pro"

Re: Updates on Macbooks?

Well I always thought people bought the Pro for the dedicated graphics cards. Seems like that's what the Pro targets: Visual professionals. The nice keyboards and extra ports or Firewire stuff are like, icing on the cake.

I'm gonna the first loser to spring for a MBP 'cos I prefer its keyboard :what:lol:

Re: Updates on Macbooks?

^ ^ Definitely. I have a 15.4 inch monitor on my laptop and it's fucking annoying. I'm way too used to a 24" widescreen where I can see everything.

Re: Updates on Macbooks?

Man, I'm seriously torn. Leopard is finally upon us, I'm locked and loaded to buy a mac on Friday, and now they pull this. I'm actually leaning towards a MacBook over a MacBook Pro in part because it's smaller and I just really don't need the upgraded graphics -- it's purely a travel computer -- and now there is this rumor of updated MBs coming out if I can just hold out a few days longer.

Damn thee Apple!

Re: Updates on Macbooks?

They will probably get the SR chips finally. Will be a nice upgrade to the systems. I can not wait clean my whole system and install Leopard on Friday. I all ready for my Captain and coke ready. wOOt! wOOt! Let us know if you have any questions T.

Re: Updates on Macbooks?

lol toasty. hopefully the new MB's come out on friday along with leopard instead of waiting a few weeks like some have said earlier in this thread... who knows.. we will know all on friday.

@ asdf, what is the SR chip and how is it better over my current MB, just curious =p.. i might have to think about selling this one over craigslist and getting a new MB if the update is really better.

Re: Updates on Macbooks?

I just found this:

http://www.macrumors.com/2007/10/28/new-apple-macbook-on-tuesday-gma-x3100/

According to sources, the wheels are in motion for Apple to deliver new MacBook updates as early as this Tuesday. While an exact date has been hard to determine, MacBook updates are expected within the next week, with evidence pointing to Tuesday.

This confirms previous rumors from ThinkSecret that Apple would introduce a new MacBook by "the first half of November". Sadly, few details on the upcoming machines are presently available.

Apple's Leopard update, however, has revealed drivers for the newer Intel GMA X3100 integrated graphics chip. This is the successor to the Intel GMA 950 which currently resides in the existing MacBooks. This would suggest that the next MacBook will see an upgrade to the Santa Rosa chipset. This, however, remains speculative. The driver, however, appears functional and works when used on a PC laptop with the X3100 chipset.

The MacBook was last updated in May of 2007.

if they were smart, they would have had the update done by the start of the Fall term. you have no idea how many college freshman etc buy macbooks... at least at University of Oregon, almost everyone (at least in the business school) has a macbook

but i am sure they have their schedule for a reason, i will be staying tune just to see the differences between mine (may edition) and the new one
