it happens with all os's and i hate it.... when i multi task i work in many programs...

what pisses me off is for example.... i am using firefox and i open logic to work on some music, and while logic is opening, i go back to what i was doing in firefox, writing emails, surfing we etc.... but which ever program becomes active jumps right to front of the screen, and at that moment i am closing a tab in firefox, and logic was active therefore closing something i didnt want to....

so basically i hate how when ever the most recent active program will jump to the front of the workspace.... annoying imo

Re: does this piss you off?

Haven't had that problem yet but I only have around 16 opened at the same time so maybe I don't have enough open.

Re: does this piss you off?

personally... i think... some programmers should rethink whether it is actually necessary to bring their programs to the foreground in some occassions. windows offers other ways to notify users about activity in other programs (blinking taskbar buttons, system tray notifications, audio notification...), but i think some programmers simply have a too "egoistic" approach on such things.

i have written programs myself that have to notify the user of "unpredictable" events. i'm using the system tray... but i'm also offering a possibility to configure things...

Re: does this piss you off?

I just tested my OS X, and I have no problem here. Opened iTunes, Photoshop and Quicktime. My safari stayed on top until I wanted to activate that window. Another reason Apple rules and Microsoft sucks.

Re: does this piss you off?

Yeah what beanz said. Aren't there settings to NOT bring windows to the front?? IIRC, tweakui for Windows lets you change the setting for the window to flash in the background. In your IM programs, there ought to be an option too, IIRC trillian has it.
