Re: You gotta be KIDDING me...
Oh no! What will we do?
Re: You gotta be KIDDING me...
honestly dude, Linksys is a real house hold name.... at least for me, I've had a linksys product for over 4 years now, either a switch, wireless router or even their cable modem. Sucks they gotta kill out a household name like that :(
Re: You gotta be KIDDING me...
if it works as well or better and costs the same then what difference does it make? but that being said the reason that i bought a linksys was because of the brand name itself says it all
Re: You gotta be KIDDING me...
Had a feeling this would eventually happen once Cisco bought out Linksys... honestly it doesn't bother me either way as long as they function well.
Re: You gotta be KIDDING me...
hopefully after the name change they will make decent consumer line routers/switch/wifi again. back in the day when linksys was linksys, their stuff were pretty good. after cisco acquisition, they cut alot of corners on hardware specs.

Re: You gotta be KIDDING me...
you guys dont get it man. honestly, if brand recognition is a concept in today's marketing world, Linksys was it for me and home networking

Re: You gotta be KIDDING me...
Cisco isn't exactly a bad name :) Just that people are more familiar with linksys gear for home use.

Exactly. I would even go as far to say that Cisco is the superior and that this change can only be a good thing.
Re: You gotta be KIDDING me...
linksys is a definite household name for home routers. i am surprised cisco is going to put their stamp on small cheap home shit as they are known for higher end equipment. seems they are going to dilute their brand a little. but they are kicking ass right now so who cares eh?
Re: You gotta be KIDDING me...
^ that's a good point. There's no reason to kill off the Linksys brand when it's well-established, plus Cisco has always been known for pretty hardcore corporate level shit. Maybe they're hoping to use Cisco's prestige for the consumer networking market, but to the layman, Cisco is probably best identified as shop/home alarm systems :lol: I think they risk fucking up Cisco's name by lending it to consumer networking.
Re: You gotta be KIDDING me...
^yeah, most people i know if i say cisco, they think of sysco the trucks they see out back of the restaurants around town delivering restaurant food and supplies
Re: You gotta be KIDDING me...
Netgear > Linksyssy
Re: You gotta be KIDDING me...
i have had a netgear for the last couple of years. got it for like 30$ at bestballs. runs perfect, wirless for my whole place and is the size of a paperback book.
Re: You gotta be KIDDING me...
I must admit that in a way I understand Kamal. I have the same thing with plastic boxes. Imagine Curver taking over Rubbermaid in the same manner: I would never get a boner again from looking at a plastic box. Mmmm, Rubbermaid...

To the layman, Cisco is that company that makes the tubs of cooking lard. :)
Re: You gotta be KIDDING me...
I remember when serveral Linksys models had major issues when trying to hook up a server to it and use it via FTP programs. Oh the joy that was when Linksys admitted, "Yeah, there isn't a fix for that. Sorry."
