Safari for windows

I've had the new windows friendly Safari for a coupld days now and it's quite nice, but it definitely needs a few extras that FF has that this hasn't. For one. I can't preview the thread in Safari like I can in FF. And the scrolling is a bit less smooth.

I do wish there was a way to import bookmarks from one browser to another, that would make my switch from one to the other much easier.

So has anyone else on MS got the new Beta Safari for Windows machines???

Re: Safari for windows

the speed on my mac for ff and safari is comparable but on my pc ff is much faster than safari .. they probably would come up with a better version for pc since its still in beta

Re: Safari for windows

I tried this out last night and wasn't very impressed. Firefox is still the way to go for now. Maybe they will work out the bugs by the time it gets outta beta.

I do. Actually I use IE 7 exclusively. Had FF on for a while, but I like the looks of IE7 much better. Tried Safari, too. The first release was way to buggy to afford browsing for more than a couple minutes, The latest release is stable enough and runs flash, too, but it lost its advertised benefit of being the fastest of them all. It seems to be just as fast or even slower than the rest of the browsers. Actually I don't really see how a browser speed is important.

Re: Safari for windows

On my vista laptop, I installed FF from the get go and used it until this weekend I noticed that if the laptop was booted up and was sitting at the desktop with no programs running, Vista Memory widget showed 39% usage (no other programs were running other than the ones that execute during normal bootup in the background). After I launched FF with 2 tabs, it jumped to about 45% usage.

I then tried the same bootup scenario with IE and with the same 2 tabs/sites opened up and it then showed me 42% RAM usage. I Find it hard to imagine IE7 using LESS juice than FF.

Anyone seen anything like this ?

Re: Safari for windows

i have ... i have no idea what it is but when i check on processes FF is one of the applications set on start up when i havent even click on it and its sucking resources .. what i do is that i would close that 'FF' and start FF all over and it would be fixed ..

doesnt always happen but i've seen it happen a couple of times though

yeah i use ie7 aswell. i know it was a bit behind with the tabbed browsing feature but i just prefer it to firefox. havent tried safari but after reading this thread i dont think that i will bother.

Re: Safari for windows

yeah it does still have a lot of bugs. I really wish they would implement some kinda way you could import passwords to sites and bookmarks also. As I hate having to rebuild the bookmarks folders with a new browser. I too went right back to FF.

Re: Safari for windows

i use IE7 as well, there is no difference in speed between it and firefox on my machine, and i like the new interface better than ff.

Re: Safari for windows

It still needs some bugs worked out on the Windows OS. Fast browser on OS X. I was FF and went to beta Safari ... lightning quick. The best damn browser ever.
