i have a dell that has 4 available slots for ram i currently have 1gig of DDR2 4200U
With RAM prices as low as they are right now I want to add more.

Re: RAM Question
not really as other types of ram are compatable with other clock speeds but if it were me i would put in the same type anyway
Re: RAM Question
i think if you get a lower speed ram it will take your 4200 down to the lower speed but im not entirely sure.

usually is the case.
and yes RAM is very cheap now.
Re: RAM Question
Look up the specs. on your motherboard and find out what is the max rated speed that it can handle and then go from there. If you have the opportunity, you ALWAYS want to go with a higher rated speed of RAM made by a brand that is known to be quite compatible with your motherboard. RAM is extremely cheap nowadays. I believe I saw 2GB sticks of DDR800 RAM going for $70 this weekend. Amazing.
