Internet connection issue - help please

dearest Comcast are messing around again - and noone seems to know what the problem is, or how to solve it.

Can any of you boffins tell me what I should ask them to check.

My wireless modem (Netgear cg814wg) has the lights blinking to show up/down connection. But from time to time (now every single day, most hours) I cannot connect the the internet. i click firfox but it times out, or page not found.

There appears to be no pattern in relation to time. After a period of time it all just starts to work again. Someitmes (but not always) unplugging the modem helps.

The people at comcast say there logs show that there is alwasy continous connection (despite me being on the phone stating I cannot access).

The tech came out and replaced my ouside wires and said there was good signal. It worked for 20 mins (enough ttime for him to leave) then the same issue happened.

Occasionally the down lightwill be out, with the up light still on. mostly though all the lights are on.

I cannot check if the firmware is uptodate as its a comcast modem and apprently they automaticaly update everything (I'm not so sure).

Any idea's please?

Re: Internet connection issue - help please

in ur modem - puter setup, do a speedtest, and if u have windows goto cmd, and type ping www.yahoo.com -t if you have a motorola modem you can log into 192.168.100.1 goto LOG section might give u some info on how often its reconnecting to the central office.

i had similar issue too, but i think its because i lived in a apartment complex, and too many people were using the cable internet service. i kept calling comcast and eventually they did something.. and gave me some discounts on my bill.

Re: Internet connection issue - help please

If it is your card, then get it resolved but don't forget to have them give you a new modem as well. When Comcast made the jump locally from having a max. download speed of 6Mbps to 12Mbps we discovered that the original modem couldn't handle the speeds at all so they gave me a better one. We no longer have Comcast in the area and so now I have my tv and internet at half the price with more speed and more channels. Thanks for sucking ass, Comcast.
