Re: Blackberry

I see a huge ad for the Blackberry Pearl everyday on the way to work on a huge billboard. Looks cool, but some of the reviews aren't too cool...we'll see

Re: Blackberry

Our entire office was on the Treo 600/650 series and finally moved to the Blackberry, I'll hand it to the sucker, its an irreplaceably dependable tool when it comes to email communications.

Re: Blackberry

For sure! Our purchasing department gets half a dozen or so in per day. These things are in demand right now.

Re: Blackberry

I wonder how the Curve will fair. That Pearl has been reported for having several issues by business people but the kiddies in high school sure love them since they're cheap. We're still using Treo 650s in our department and it gets the job done. I know, there are better out there. I gave away my Blackjack because I am too used to the touchscreen. Either you love it, or you don't.

#856638Post 10 of 30

Re: Blackberry

yes the touchscreen is one of the most appealing facets of the treo for me. not sure if either of the above BB's have it

Re: Blackberry

I've yet to see a Blackberry that utilizes a touch screen. Do they even make any? Anyone?

#856716Post 12 of 30

Re: Blackberry

I had one about 6 months ago and found the data plan to be far to expensive! They are a very reliable though, I have to hand it to RIM.

I have a GSM compatible Treo 650 and cant stand it.... dying to end my contract and get rid of the phone and pick up a BlackBerry 8800. Gorgeous looking phone I will admit that

#865173Post 17 of 30

Re: Blackberry

Currently using the 8800, got it sent free from RIM back in Feb, so traded in my 8125 in for a while to give the RIM folks another try. Absolutely hated blackberry until this one.

I carried a treo 650 for a year, hacked it and had every app available for it and it just couldn't hold up to the beating i put on it! The novi remote for treo is bad ass! check it out here.

Pros and cons of the 8800

Pro: -all email, sms and mms are stored on a bb server. saves memory on device -really thin, very comfortable for those used to carrying treo and ppc phones -comes with voice command by voice signal. no need to buy 3rd party app for voice dialing -push to talk (walkie talkie style service is pretty fun to play with if you know someone else who has the service) -bluetooth works like a champ! -the "pearl" navigation ball is a great alternative to the scroll wheel which i could not stand -built in GPS is fantastic! check with your cell provider for details. very impressed with this feature -in case you don't know blackberry's are built to be pretty much indestructible. I don't recommend dropping one in water to see if it is water proof but it will take a beating! have literally thrown blackberry's as hard as i could (and played hockey with a 7130) to see how much damage one would take and couldn't break by dropping, throwing (hard) or hitting with a hockey stick. truly amazing!! watched a rep from RIM throw his into a wall and it was ringing before he could get it out of the sheet rock.

Cons: -no camera, if this is an issue get the curve fo sho -in order to get video to play you will need to download a blackberry video converter, get it here. -in order to use the GPS you must subscribe to service -continual blackberry issue of not being able to open all attachments (not so much of an issue as most excel sheets and pdf's you need to veiw on a pc screen to see anyway)

Overall the curve has a 2 mp cam and wifi, just hope RIM sends me one of these bad boys soon.

#865215Post 18 of 30

Re: Blackberry

how is RIM "sending" you these bad boys and how can we get on this charitable list ?

nice review btw, thankfully none of the cons are of use to me

Re: Blackberry

I manage a cell phone company that sells blackberries and they usually send the store managers all the newest goodies that come out. Wish I could spread the love.

Why should it be? BB's are designed for the corporate world...:Anal:

Re: Blackberry

From what I've been told RiM is licensing out the technology so now your standard phone brands will be able to connect to blackberry enterprise servers.

Re: Blackberry

Dayam....you're right beaner... blackberry 8800 for $99

Does anyone know what's the deal with AT&Ts data plans. They seem to say that the plan offers unlimited data transfer as long as you are on the AT&T network.

#871929Post 27 of 30

Re: Blackberry

indeed at&t does offer unlimited as long as you are on their network. you can get a bb plan for $29.99/month. (not bad)

$99 for the 8800 is a steal, i personally dont advocate wirefly but that's a damn good deal!

make sure to do some research on InPhonic before you buy. not sure how things are going now, but i do know that they were in a class action lawsuit for not honoring their rebates a while back.
Why should it be? BB's are designed for the corporate world...:Anal:
they are defo geared towards business, but it would amaze you at how many people carry them just to look important. i see people everyday that simply carry them because they are easy to text on. from a sales perspective, i could give a rats ass what someone does with it as long as they buy it, but most people want to have a camera in their phone and alot of times wont buy if it doesnt have one. i prefer to use a real camera so that the pic doesnt look like ass, but to each his own.

you are correct, the nokia E62 is the first nokia phone i sell to offer bb service

Is that something I can get through AT&T ?

Our office buys phones from them like its running out of style and haven't had too many problems with them. Even at $199 that thing is $150 less than any other place I've bumped into on the web.
