So I finally got sick of how slow my PC was working thanks to Vista and decided to roll back to XP, but for the LIFE of me I cant get XP setup to load when I reboot. I tried XP / Windows 2003 / Windows XP MCE, none of the setups will load when the machine boots. I only get the "Press any key to boot from cd" option if the Vista OS CD is in the DVD ROM. Everything else fails.

Any clues ?

Re: Nightmare vista uninstall

Uh ohhhhh...I wouldn't upset Vista. Vista is God. It has become jealous it has...I have had Windows Vista Home and havn't really noticed much of a difference other then it messing up some of my games and more security.

Re: Nightmare vista uninstall

weird, vista works awesome with me! what kind of hardware specs u have?

did you installed a torrent version of vista? or you actually bought the product?... in any case some hacks and cracks can cause stabilty issues

-try going to the bios and change the boot preference to boot from cd not from DVD if that doesn't work then...

why dont you check for a solution here...

Re: Nightmare vista uninstall

Hey thanks for that, I like Vista more now by the minute. All I had to do was run my games as a administrator and I figured out how to view my windows in 3d. I only have a gig of memory. Probably need to get another one.

Re: Nightmare vista uninstall

I wouldn't bother with a roll back. Just reformat the fucker and put XP back on.

Re: Nightmare vista uninstall

Thats what I am trying but it only seems to give me the option to boot from cd when the Vista DVD is in the damn player.....

Re: Nightmare vista uninstall

So what happens if you tried to boot up with a WinXP install CD?

#832468Post 9 of 40

Re: Nightmare vista uninstall

Nothing, it skips right past the DVD and starts loading vista. But if I insert the Vista DVD and hit reset, it'll reboot but this time I get the "Press any key to boot from CD" option

Re: Nightmare vista uninstall

use the fdisk command ( or fdisc maybe, i never get the spelling right lol )

edit: oh something else, if when u put the xp disk in and it says invalid system disc then open the drive and close the drive and it should boot up the xp disc

#832533Post 11 of 40

Re: Nightmare vista uninstall

it doesnt read ANY drive on boot up other than the Vista Disk. I'm afraid I'm gonna have to create a boot up floppy and fdisk the drive out. But I cant understand how/why even after setting the boot sequence to load from the DVD Rom, why would it ignore the others Operating Systems and only give the boot option for Vista. I mean even if Vista has changed the BOOTLDR, is that a setting in the BIOS ?

Kamal, ever heard of a thingie called EBCD (Emergency Boot CD)? Chech it out, has always worked like a charm for me: http://ebcd.pcministry.com/

#832585Post 16 of 40

Re: Nightmare vista uninstall

I did try that, but the problem is, it wont read ANY CD / DVD during the bootup process other than the Vista installation DVD

#832891Post 24 of 40

Re: Nightmare vista uninstall
havnt a clue, why dont u just remove the hd from that comp stick it in one of ur others and format it using that ? 8)
I was going to suggest this when I first read your post, Kamal. If you can't make it work, just stick in a new HDD and stick the old booter as a slave. At least you know, that'll work for ya.

#833019Post 26 of 40

Re: Nightmare vista uninstall

Dont have another one unfortunately, so I guess I'm just stuck with vista for now... ugh

#833133Post 28 of 40

Re: Nightmare vista uninstall

believe it or not, I'm actually going to go out and buy Windows XP MCE cause I dont need to upgrade my hardware for it to perform flawlessly on my PC. I will only get Vista on my laptop (whenever I get it next)

Re: Nightmare vista uninstall

Re: Nightmare vista uninstall
whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat??????????????

That's rediculous.
yeah i'm not kidding mate, however since vista is desinged to perform better on dual core processors the machine is fast as hell, the boot time is like 19 seconds and coming from sleep mode its like 6 seconds

Re: Nightmare vista uninstall

Use your XP cd to rewrite your mbr.

Forget what the command is... maybe fixboot /mbr or something like that?

#837184Post 34 of 40

Re: Nightmare vista uninstall

well after another frutiless effort filled weekend of trying to get XP MCE to work, I rolled back to Vista. While vista may not have compatibility with a shit load of hardware out there, I will admit that a lot of the stuff built into it not only appears to be stable, but WOW the TV Tuner card support / encoders / decoders work so well, my TV Tuner actually appears better through S-Video out rather than my actual cable plugged into my TV.

Have no choice now but to have my 360 stream live TV across the network and have my audio through the Xbox rather than bust my hump trying to make my creative sound card work with vista.

That's really obnoxious. XP ran comfortably on what, 256? I get that we can expect an increase in RAM requirements any time there is a upgrade in an OS, but having anything south of 2 GB being too little is just absurd.

well windows vista uses a tecnology called indexing for faster search and also there is a sleep mode for the computer plus I play a lot of games on my pc. 2gb is excellent for the new OS i know it sounds lame but microsoft has been lame since 1975.

I guess part of it is what I see Apple doing with 256 in OS X. Vista still pales by comparison, far as I can tell...

Vista is better then OS X by far. It pales in comparison.

#837526Post 39 of 40

Re: Nightmare vista uninstall

Is OS-X based on Linux architecture ? I Know both Tiger and Leopard are and no MS product could ever top that in performance + stability

Re: Nightmare vista uninstall

Its based on BSD.

Its been happening for years but computers are so powerful that programmers get away with sloppy coding. 900MB for just those few things is obscene in my book. I'd honestly say all those things should run on 128meg...
well windows vista uses a tecnology called indexing for faster search and also there is a sleep mode for the computer
erm... XP has indexing too. As for sleep mode... that shouldn't take up much mem at all.
