My CPU fan seems to blow air onto instead of sucking air away from the CPU. How do you reverse the direction of air flow ?

thats the way its meant to be kamal lol

tbh personally i wouldnt fuck around with it

Re: CPU Fan

really? but that's not logical if right, if it was blowing onto the processor vs. sucking air away from it and releasing it into the rest of the case, then the rear fan on every PC would not be blowing hot air out but sucking air in to give the CPU fan cooler air to blow onto the processor.

think about it.....if the metal bit wasnt gettin cooled air blown onto it it would just heat and heat and tbh i dont think sucking the air away from it would do much to disperse the heat, as the air goes into the fan its cooled by the motion, this is why u also have case fans to bring a flow of cold air from outside and also to take the hot air out, doesnt sound logical but it works

Re: CPU Fan

red1 is 100% correct on this one. Ask anyone that builds computers. You ALWAYS have the fan blowing onto the heatsink to help disperse the heat as fast as possible and to help cool the parts.

Re: CPU Fan

the reason I still find it an ineffective technique is because after 2 years, my heatsink had actually accumulated a 1 - 2 mm layer of dust causing the fan to spin ridiculously loud-er (I'm only now reading several reports that the Northwood based CPUs are prone to tremendous heat discharges, the Dual Cores are actually much cooler).

Since the fan is mounted on the heatsink which is accumulating all the heat, I'd imagine it makse sense to have the heatsink fans pull the heat "away" rather than into it because that would essentially render the rear mounted fan useless.

lmao seems I'm gonna have to reverse my rear fan

no i,m confused lmao

fuck it, just attatch a leaf blower

Re: CPU Fan

ok i,m not sure if this will work but i think if u snip the wires and connect them to the opposite wires it MIGHT reverse the fan, try it on something old first

#828964Post 11 of 27

Re: CPU Fan

that WILL do it, I'd rather just change the POS

Re: CPU Fan

really...have you ever tried to point a fan on you when you were sweating? Well...the sweat is the heatsink and the fan is...the fan.

think about it ;-)

dont think that will work..its how the blades are made.. :D

Re: CPU Fan

Running my 120mm fan at half speed (down) on my Opty 165 yields a temp of 30 degrees Celsius and if I reverse it to pull up the heat then the temp jumps up at least 11 degrees Celcius. And that's with this thing OC'd 1.1GHz.

Re: CPU Fan

Hey Beanz...if I want to upgrade my cpu in the future and I can't get a quad-core AMD, do you advise me to take a faster Athlon or an Opteron?

#830889Post 16 of 27

Re: CPU Fan

^ ^ Are you looking to add an upgrade to an existing mainboard in your possession or are you looking to upgrade that as well? I need details, duder. If you're just going by either an Athlon or Opteron, I'd go with the Opty all the way. I OC'd this thing without having to bump up the voltage and it's just air-cooled at the moment. The cpu test report told me I can get it to go over 3.0GHz but I bet I'll have to water cool that sucker then.

simply swap the CPU on my mobo, which is an (socket AM2) Asus M2N-E nF570U. Looking to upgrade my chip around summer time, but i'm not sure wether i can afford the new quadcores, so in that case i'd go for the faster in dual core my money can buy me ;-)

Re: CPU Fan

Then you definitely would want an Opteron for that bad boy.

Re: CPU Fan

In that case I'd love to get my hands on either this one http://www.alternate.nl/html/productDetails.html?artno=HE1A50 or maybe this one if it comes with 2MB L2 cache http://www.alternate.nl/html/productDetails.html?artno=HEEA51. And the energy efficient version if possible.

Re: CPU Fan

the fans I have also accumulate the dust too just from years of usage/running...popped the unit out, grab a little damp cloth, unscrewed the fans from the casing and wiped down the crevices & blades...problem solved. I also did it because they needed some oiling up as they were running loud as a motherfuck...

#831355Post 21 of 27

Re: CPU Fan

Why do you people accumulate dust? You don't put screen filters on your intake fans?

#831388Post 22 of 27

Re: CPU Fan

or use vacuum cleaner every few months,

or better, get a maid which will do her job...

#831478Post 23 of 27

Re: CPU Fan

lol...

hey Beanz, I didn't know there was such a thing as screen filters? I'm going to look around for a less noisy case too btw, I want an Arctic Silentium :D.

#831519Post 24 of 27

Re: CPU Fan

^^ My hunt for that is on as well, will get a gigantic copper cooler and mount a fan blowing air through it towards the rear fan - I think MASSCOOL makes a CPU cooler like that

I also bought silent case fans (they were like $1.97 each) so I'll give those a testing today and post some feedback

#831573Post 25 of 27

Re: CPU Fan

cool...do so. My kid bro has an Arctic silentium T2 and is nearly impossible to hear anything from that thing. ?bersilent shit, with 4 ceramic casefans or something....

#832974Post 26 of 27

Re: CPU Fan

Or just watercool the system, get some Yate Loons and down tune them on a CM Stacker 810 and you won't hear shit. The only way to tell that my brother's system is on is by the power light and the monitor. That thing is dead silent. Kills me.
