Upgrading puter speakers etc

I'm thinking of upgrading the sound output of my puter. Currently have a subwoofer and dell speakers and a soundcard. In a relatively small room.

What are considered to be top of the line soundcards and speakers for a puter? And which are good value for money?

What do you all use?

thanks

(Move if it need to be in the games section)

Cheers

exactly. but IMO I'd get some speakers with amps already built in. Like the BX5 from M-Audio.

Re: Upgrading puter speakers etc

i think speakers with amps built in are good.

I have the JBL LSR4300 speakers. For sound card, I have an M Audio delta 44 that is now broken, and i also use my access virus, and xone mixer as sound cars.

Re: Upgrading puter speakers etc

Go with an out board. Go RCA or digital out. I had this set up for years and simply loved it. Computer speakers are great, but overall are really in low performance. If you can go out to a HI-FI system you will really love the results. Apple has a bunch of products that allows you to "wi-fi" your audio signal to your stereo for the cable-less approach. I am just going huge on a wireless home system. There are numerous options out there, just depends on how much you would like to spend. If you get an out box, you will have it for life. In the audio field really not that much has changed.

Ya gotta argue your case on this one bro...A producer friend of mine has had those speakers with it's sub for a couple years and has had no problems at all. They still sound fantastic and thye don't cost and arm and a leg.

Re: Upgrading puter speakers etc

but upgrading is expensive, i would just do the whole thing in one go

Re: Upgrading puter speakers etc

Hugster, are you upgrading your OS as well ? Reason I ask is that I have a Creative Audigy 2ZS Platinum Sound Card which I am planning to put on e-bay because Vista will just not work with it and I've been told that Creative will not be making drivers for the Audigy series.

Re: Upgrading puter speakers etc

If you want good sound, don't get anything by Creative. That's pretty much an understood. Now do you want semi-pro audio or pro audio quality? Speakers or monitors? How much are you willing to shell out? Thousands?

Even if your soundcard doesnt have rca out you can convert the "out" headphone jack to dual rca

Some really nice computer speakers are Logitech's Z-2300's

I have a cambridge soundworks system. 2 satellites and a sub. it sounds great for $80 when i bought it. plus having the sub underneath a big desk makes the bass pretty intense.

Re: Upgrading puter speakers etc

My pc speaker system is over seven years old. Boston Acoustics circa 1998. 2.1 and it still shakes the fucking ground.
