Re: iPhone

I love it! Unfortunately, Cingular doesn't work in my house, and my cell is pretty much my only phone... :(

Re: iPhone

that thing looks sweet.

599$ for the 8g, 499$ for the 4g, but i think jobs was leaning on the fact in his keynote that it is a phone AND an ipod, so the price can be (somewhat) justified.

too bad it has to run on cingulars shit network.

man all apple products have the best ui's anywhere, i really want to see this thing in person. too bad it doesnt come out until july

Re: iPhone

your getting an Ipod video, plus a palmp ilot plus a phone ... the price is justifiable for what you get ... now as everything new from apple we'll have to wait and see how the first edition comes out ( problems and stuff ) .. and if its good other companies will have to get it

Re: iPhone

I made the mistake of actually watching the demo on that thing. Big pimpin', to say the least, and worth every bit of $599 IMO. Man, I might have Cingular install a tower on my roof so I can get that thing...

I thought someone else had the the iphone name?? It looks as though it does everything bar make the coffee:lol:

"Lrn really cool, but too big for me, would definatly not fit in my pockets"

You must have small pockets:lol:

Re: iPhone

It's really neat, but definitely not for that price. That is with a 2yr contract as well! I imagine the no contract fee will be close to $1000, no thanks!

I think the touch screen idea is a bad idea as even with Sony Smart phones (and other brands) with the touch screen they have issues after a bit of use, and people hammer down harder on the screens. Also if it's anything like their iPod the screen will scratch way to easily (like my colour iPod did) and then you will be pissed that you spent all that money.

Re: iPhone

wait 2 years and you'll be able to pick up an even better one with a bigger HD for much cheaper.

Re: iPhone

dude this phone is da shit! sweet touch screen, sleek and stylish. i dunno about you guys but i have cingular currently and i have no problem at all with the service. i cant wait for this to come out!!

Re: iPhone

Well I just watched the Macworld keynote address. This thing is totally amazing.! It's just a huge leap forward!! It won't be here until 2008:(
wait 2 years and you'll be able to pick up an even better one with a bigger HD for much cheaper.
exactly. Sad thing is a bunch of people will run out and buy them just solely on the fact that it is an Apple product, therefore, it must be cool.

If it comes to Canada, the internet features will be pointless in my opinion as places like Rogers offer the worst data plans. In the US I see it as beneficial as you can get unlimited plans for a really good price.

is an apple product, is cool  really.. that phone, apple or not, is cool. i would buy it (not for that price though)

#783778Post 24 of 44

Re: iPhone

Yes people are going to buy these things like hot cakes. You would be stupid not to. It's from Apple and Apple has reinvented the phone. I also watched the keynote last night, and I was just amazed how cool this thing is. It's everything you need and more. Who the hell is going to wait two years for a larger hard drive ... stupid. It comes out in June 07 it $599 for the 8 gig version and $499 for the 4 gig. It is currently only being launched with Cingular (my company). It GSM tech ... and also no UMTS (3G) not to say it won't. Frankly I am sold in all aspects.

If you have any questions please ask ... some of you have your facts so messed up it is not even funny. I got a company release a few days a go, so I am pretty informed with the team from Cingular to Apple.

The future of phones is here.

ps. Cingular will be changing back to ATT at some time this year. So technically look at it as ATT and Apple.

I tuned into the keynote live while it was happening and saw all of the cool things it does. I am not denying that it's cool. The price however is ridiculous IMO, it's a phone. Sure it can go online, play music, check email, and play songs...but you know what? My Sony does that to...give it a year or maybe two and other companies will have released something similar and the price will drop. $500USD plus a 2yr contract (by the phone having all those features you will probably need a plan that is around $50min...times that by 24 months = $1200 pls the $500 for the phone, so $1700 or more), is a bit much IMO.

I think Apple is banking on the fact that it's not just a phone

Re: iPhone
Cisco to sue Apple on iPhone name Cisco is suing Apple Computer for trademark infringement in a US federal court, for using the iPhone name.

Apple launched its new handheld device under the iPhone name on Tuesday, at the Macworld event in San Francisco.

Following the launch Cisco said it hoped to resolve the matter by Tuesday evening after negotiations.

An Apple representative responded by saying the lawsuit was "silly" and that Cisco's trademark registration was "tenuous at best".

"We think Cisco's trademark lawsuit is silly," the representative said. "There are already several companies using the name iPhone for Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) products."

"...We are the first company to ever use the iPhone name for a cell phone, and if Cisco wants to challenge us on it we are very confident we will prevail."

'Revolutionary'

Cisco, which has owned the trademark since 2000, said it thought Apple would agree to a final document and public statement regarding the trademark.

"Cisco entered into negotiations with Apple in good faith after Apple repeatedly asked permission to use Cisco's iPhone name," said Mark Chandler, Cisco senior vice-president and general counsel, in a statement.

The firm has owned the name since it bought Infogear Technology in 2000, which registered the name.

This issue is not about money, and it's not about the phone itself; it is about Cisco's obligation to protect its trademark in the face of Apple using it without our permission

Jon Noh, Cisco spokesperson

Infogear had previously used the name for several years, said Cisco.

Cisco, which supplies networks, said it would seek to stop Apple from "infringing upon and deliberately copying and using" the trademark.

Jon Noh, a spokesperson for Cisco told the BBC: "This issue is not about money, and it's not about the phone itself; it is about Cisco's obligation to protect its trademark in the face of Apple using it without our permission."

Cisco's Linksys arm has employed the trademark since early 2006, and in December it launched its own phone, capable of connecting to the internet, called the iPhone.

News of Apple's launch of its touch screen has been long awaited and Steve Jobs, the firm's head, said the phone would revolutionise the market.

Shares in Apple were 1.3% lower in after-hours trade, having risen 8% after the phone was launched a day earlier.
Cisco sues Apple over iPhone

Cisco Systems, with Chief Executive John Chambers, sued Apple Inc. in federal court on Wednesday, claiming that Cisco owns the iPhone trademark. Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs unveiled the long awaited Apple iPhone at the MacWorld trade show in San Francisco on Tuesday, but Cisco claims that Apple does not have the right to use the name 'iPhone'.

way to go...

Re: Cisco sues Apple over iPhone

Apple already knew Cisco holds that trademark but they went ahead with it, and actually sound confident of getting away with it.

Re: Cisco sues Apple over iPhone

lol and shares of each company are showing which way the public seems to be leaning. apple is being retarded imo.

#787162Post 35 of 44

Re: Cisco sues Apple over iPhone

not really my area of expertise, but I think Apple is actually on fairly strong footing here. Just having a product with the same name isn't enough. That would be way too broad of a rule. It is more a question of whether they are operating the same marketplace, and how the marketplace is defined and subdivided can have a significant impact on the ultimate result.

Re: Cisco sues Apple over iPhone

you know what will happen.

it will sit in court for awhile, eventually there will be a payout and % of profit payout over time. legally, they do own the copyright, and apple doesnt care b/c of public support. so they will fight, and a judge will rule in favor of law, and cisco will get paid. the iphone will continue, and apple will keep giving the hippies a reason to say "my shit isbetter" because holding onto apple products is the last bastion of high life these idiots have.
